Well known for her sense of humor, board-certified endocrinologist Dr Tokayer established Elite Diabetes & Endocrine Specialists in 2013 after working for several large prestigious endocrine groups. She wanted to give patients a more intimate boutique experience without the concierge price.
Dedicated to personalized care with a focus on education, Elite Diabetes and Endocrine Specialists utilizes advanced technology to assist patients in reaching their goals. There, Dr. Tokayer is joined by Sharon Miller, MD, and renowned nutritionist, Marci Sloane.
Born to holocaust survivors, she grew up and trained in New York with the determination to make the world a better place. A graduate from Barnard College, she obtained her Medical Degree from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine in New York City, New York in 1995. She then went on to complete her training in endocrinology at NYU Winthrop Hospital.
Shortly after, she became board-certified in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism by the American Board of Internal Medicine, a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Among the doctor’s many accomplishments, she was recognized as an Outstanding Physician in 2016 by Boca Regional Hospital for her work in diabetes education. According to her, working one on one with patients is what it takes to make meaningful change.
Endocrinology is a branch of biology and medicine dealing with the endocrine system, its diseases, and its specific secretions known as hormones. Endocrinologists have the training to diagnose and treat hormone imbalances and problems by helping to restore the normal balance of hormones in the body. The common diseases and disorders of the endocrine system that endocrinologists deal with include diabetes mellitus, as well as adrenal, pituitary, and thyroid disorders, among others. Dr. Tokayer’s areas of interest include thyroid and parathyroid disease, as well as pituitary, adrenal, and metabolic bone disorders such as osteoporosis. She is also skilled and certified in fine needle aspiration of the thyroid and thyroid sonography.
On the subject of her personal life, she and her husband have five children who make the world a more interesting place.
