Can sudden asphyxia cause brain injury in a child?
Yes, this is referred to often as Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy or HIE. It can be associated with multi-organ failure, neonatal seizures, and abnormal findings on brain MRI. Febrile seizures can occur between 6 months and 5 years old.
