Get to know Internist Dr. Arthur Childs, who serves patients in Cape May Court House, New Jersey.

Dr. Childs is a caring and devoted internist who is currently serving patients at his private practice – Arthur Childs Medical Home – in Cape May Court House, New Jersey. He has devoted his life to providing the best in personal medical care to his patients. For this reason, he has made the decision to practice medicine in a way that allows him to serve the best interests of his patients, as opposed to the bureaucracy of the medical establishment. This concept is called the “Patient-Centered Medical Home”, where healthcare is practiced the way it should be – uncompromising

Dr. Childs has devoted his career to comprehensive medical care for his patients, being a staunch advocate and director of all aspects of care involved, including office, hospital, intensive, and rehabilitative care. He has also directed nursing home and palliative care for many of his patients and family members in the waning days of life.

Dr. Childs is presently Chair of the Critical Care Committee and Medical Director of the Diabetic Care Team at Cape Regional Medical Center. He is also an Instructor for the Fundamental Critical Care Support Course of the Society of Critical Care Medicine in association with the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Childs is a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists (FACOI). He is also a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Osteopathic Association, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.

Dr. Childs was born and raised in Northern New Jersey. He migrated south, earning a bachelor’s degree in microbiology and psychology from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He then went on to graduate with his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, where he also completed his residency in internal medicine and his fellowship in emergency and critical care medicine. During his training, he earned recognition as Intern of the Year, Medical Resident of the Year, and Chief Fellow.

Dr. Childs is currently enrolled in a Masters of Science program provided by the Jefferson School of Public Health, with the aim of helping foster better care and quality for the greater good with a degree in Healthcare Quality, Safety and Management.

Internal medicine or general medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. They manage and prevent common and complex diseases by providing comprehensive care and promoting overall wellbeing. “I believe that time, while not the most sophisticated diagnostic tool, is the most important resource I have in caring for my patients. As an internal medicine doctor, time is my most valuable resource. Illness is much more complex than a series of lab or x-ray findings. It is rather a disturbance that is interwoven into the fabric of a person’s life” as stated by Dr. Childs.

Dr. Childs’ keen interest in medicine stemmed from his young love of science combined with his natural ability and desire to selflessly take care of others. He attributes his success to his determination to never compromise his values and his commitment to always putting the welfare of his patient first.

In his spare time, Dr. Childs enjoys spending quality time with his family while preparing for his next adventures traveling.
