Get to know Radiologist Dr. Stephanie M. Simonson, who serves patients in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. 

Dr. Simonson is a board-certified radiologist who specializes in musculoskeletal and orthopaedic radiology, MRI imaging and protocol design, therapeutic and diagnostic joint injection and aspiration, as well as coronary computed tomography angiography. She is in practice at Cambria Somerset Radiology in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. 

Cambria Somerset Radiology serves patients who require diagnostic imaging and interventional therapies. The clinic specializes in diagnostic and interventional radiology to classify and treat various diseases, and emphasize minimally invasive treatments when appropriate. Interventional radiology makes delivering treatment at the source possible, leading to lower risk of complications and often shorter recovery time. Beyond cancer care, Cambria Somerset Radiology also focuses specifically on women’s imaging, offering gynecological intervention procedures.

After earning her undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville and her medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, she went on to complete her post-doctoral research fellowship at the Center for Molecular Imaging Research at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Thereafter, she completed her internship in general surgery in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Boston University Medical Center, followed by her residency in diagnostic radiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and her fellowship in musculoskeletal radiology at the same venue. 

Among her many achievements, including the Peacock Family Award for Outstanding Performance in Gross Anatomy and the Regents Opportunity Merit Scholarship – to name a few, the doctor is board-certified in diagnostic radiology by the American Board of Radiology – a non-profit physician-led organization that oversees the certification and ongoing professional development of specialists in diagnostic radiology, radiation oncology, and medical physics. 

She remains at the forefront of her challenging speciality via memberships with several professional organizations, including the American College of Radiology and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society- Georgia Chapter.

Radiology is a medical specialty that uses medical imaging to diagnose and treat diseases within the human body. Radiologists are medical doctors who specialize in diagnosing and treating injuries and diseases using medical imaging procedures, such as exams and tests, X-rays, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear medicine, mammography, positron emission tomography, and ultrasound.

Attributing her success to her love and passion for the field and the support from her husband and family, Dr. Simonson enjoys skiing, running half-marathons, painting, and reading when she is not working.
