  • What do you wear to a chiropractor appointment?

Hi, When you go to a chiropractic appointment you can wear your usual clothes and not worry about it. The chiropractor should be able to adjust you whatever you wear. But the easiest for everybody to avoid having the chiropractor having to cover you or change you into a gown is to wear something comfortable and not too tight. Avoid wearing jeans that are really tight as it makes it harder to adjust sometimes. If you are able to dress before the appointment wearing lose clothes or sweats would be ideal but again your chiropractor will be able to adjust you in whatever clothes you come in with. Hope this helps, “Because your well-being matters...” Dr. Jessica Grichy, DC READ MORE

  • Diarrhea after going to the chiropractor?

Hi, It is hard to answer your question without having more information on your case and the reasons you sought chiropractic care. Sometimes, after an adjustment you can feel a little achy or tight and if you had some interference in your nervous system (parasympathetic nervous system dominant) you can feel constipated or tired etc. So, when we apply a chiropractic adjustment, it can help with those types of issues so people could have better bowel movements or sometimes mild diarrhea because the sympathetic nervous system was stimulated. Now, again it’s hard to know if that bout of diarrhea was due to the adjustments or if something else is going on. Nausea would usually not be a side effect of a regular chiropractic adjustment. Did you have some gastro-intestinal manipulation done? That can sometimes happens then but rarely with a regular diversified adjustment. I would advise you to monitor your symptoms and call your health care provider and if it doesn’t get better or if you feel anything else, I would go get checked by your primary care provider to make sure the nausea and diarrhea are not due to any other underlying issue or viruses etc. Hope this helps, Dr. Jessica Grichy, DC READ MORE

  • Can my son's sleep patterns improve with chiropractic care?

Hi, Absolutely! Chiropractic care and also Cranio sacral therapy are two treatments that when both are combined together works wonders on insomnia and sleep issues. I, myself use both in this type of cases in my practice as well as diet/ exercises/ supplements and have amazing results. Chiropractic care targets stabilization of the nervous system using specific types of adjustments and or muscle work to stimulate the nervous system in a way that the appropriate hormones will be released. First, your chiropractor will figure out the exact cause of the insomnia and talk to you about what to do to help. Complementary to chiropractic treatment and Cranio sacral therapy, your health care provider can talk to you about some home care/exercises/relaxation and also importantly diet changes or supplements your child could take to help. Again, it’s extremely important to figure out the cause of the insomnia to be able to treat it effectively. We are all unique individuals and what works for one person would not work for everybody. Find a chiropractor who also has knowledge in nutrition/functional medicine/Cranio sacral therapy if possible and I’m sure they will be able to help your child with the sleeping issues. Hope this helps and your child will start having peaceful nights of sleep and sweet dreams. Dr. Jessica Grichy, DC READ MORE

  • What are the the best ways to relieve neck pain?

Hi, When you feel like your neck pain happens when you wake up and you think that you slept wrong, you should contact your chiropractor the same day to make an appointment for an evaluation and treatment. The earlier you do so, the least amount of time it will take to go away. If you can’t have an appointment on the same day, you can apply heat (with a heat pad) on the affected area and leave it for 12-15 min at a time 2-3 times per day. Remember when you apply a heat pad, have a layer of a towel or two under it to avoid overheating. You can also use some over the counter pain relieving cream like Arnika, Tiger balm or Biofreeze, but REMEMBER THAT IF YOU USE THE CREAM CONTAINING MENTHOL OR CAMPHOR, YOU CANNOT USE THE HEAT PAD RIGHT ON TOP OF IT OR RIGHT AFTER IT because it could irritate/burn the skin under it. So, use those two things at least an hour away from each other. Taking hot showers/bath/hot tub can also help temporarily. READ MORE

  • What can I expect with a herniated disk?

Hi, A herniated disc is diagnosed with the help of a diagnostic test called an MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), which will show any type of herniation inside your spine. It will also diagnose the severity of the herniation and if there is any other issues/ degeneration/spinal cord compression associated to it. READ MORE

  • Can a chiropractor help me with my sciatica?

Hi, Absolutely. Chiropractors are trained to treat sciatica issues. We are specialized in those types of condition. What I would advise you to do is when you make the appointment at your chiropractor to ask if they do have experience with pregnancy and post-partum patients as it would be beneficial in your case to go to a chiropractor who does. Chiropractors use adjustments, muscle work and possibly modalities like electrical muscle stimulation to treat sciatica issues. We also use decompression techniques, manual or with a special machine to treat nerve compression issues as well. We also will show you stretches or home exercises that you can do at home to hold the adjustment and keep your spine/musculoskeletal system stable and prevent any further instability or pain related to your sciatica pain. Especially post-partum (after giving birth), it is extremely beneficial that you seek chiropractic treatment to help you get back to your optimal health and be pain-free to take care of your little one. Congratulations on the birth of your bundle of joy! Hope this helps. “Because your well-being matters” Dr. Jessica Grichy, DC READ MORE

  • I have several bulging discs in my spine. Should I be treated by a chiropractor or have surgery?

Hi, I would definitely advise you to go see a chiropractor and get a full evaluation to be able to find the severity of your bulging discs and have the opinion from a chiropractor who is able to treat you and relieve your pain without the need of surgery. If the chiropractor thinks that your case is so severe that you shouldn’t get chiropractic treatment, if you have any contraindication for it or if after a conservative treatment, there is no results, the chiropractor will tell you what to do or refer you to the right specialist. I want to stress that there is many research out there showing that there are not always a correlation between the severity of the disc herniation and the severity of symptoms and vice versa. Also, remember that MRI results can change over the years with an appropriate chiropractic treatment. Obviously if you ever feel symptoms of severe numbness in your limbs, lose control of your urination or bowel movements or weakness like if you start tripping, falling and lose strength in either your arms and legs. All those are signs that you may have passed the time for conservative treatment and surgery may be necessary. But this is not common, and generally, it is the best option to start chiropractic treatment with your type of issues as we are the specialists for this type of condition. Make an appointment with your chiropractor ASAP and he/she will be able to treat you with adjustments, manual decompression/ traction, muscle work and give you the appropriate exercises/home care to stabilize your condition and have you be pain free that you can go play tennis again. • What is causing my random back pain?

Hi, It’s hard to say just from the information you are giving here. There can be many reasons for random back pain especially without clear injuries or trauma.I would advise you to make an appointment with your chiropractor so that he/she can do a full examination and, if needed, have you do more testing like X-rays, MRI, or any other diagnostic test you would need to be able to get a clear picture of what’s going on. It may also be nothing serious and the chiropractor will be able to provide treatment to relieve your pain right away. If there is no underlying disease and it is found to be musculoskeletal related, your chiropractor will be able to apply adjustments, do some muscle work and give you some home stretching/exercises that you can keep yourself stable and stay in optimal health. Feel free to reach out to your chiropractor if you have any further question/concerns, but the best way to diagnose the exact cause of your back pain is to get a full evaluation from your chiropractor. “Because your well-being matters” Dr. Jessica Grichy, DC READ MORE

  • Is homeopathy a good option for treating muscular pains and aches?

Hi, I think the first step you should take is talk to a licensed doctor about your aches and pain to make sure there is no underlying disease or issue associated with your complains now. You can see your primary care physician first or go have a consultation with your chiropractor. If you are interested in homeopathy after you ruled out any bigger issues, you can talk to a homeopath specifically and they will give you specifics about how it works and why or why not it could be an appropriate option for you. Muscular pains and aches not associated with any underlying physiological issues are treated extremely well by chiropractors. They can also give you some home care advise and home exercises to do to help keep you stable and in optimal health. Some chiropractors specialized in functional medicine and nutrition can also help you with some natural supplements and nutrition tips to avoid accumulation of inflammation in your body, which is often the cause of muscular aches and pain not due to injuries or illnesses. So, you can find yourself a specialized chiropractor also. Hope this helps, “Because your well-being matters” READ MORE

Hi, It is always best to call the doctor who did your surgeries to make sure there is no contraindication for you to take Paracetamol even if it is an over-the-counter medication. Please contact your doctor’s office and they will be able to answer your question appropriately because they know your case and your needs. Hope this helps. READ MORE

  • Do chiropractic adjustments help with chronic lower back pain?

Hi, Absolutely. Chiropractors do treat the whole body, but our speciality is musculoskeletal, which means spine, muscles, and all surrounding tissue that stabilize our joints. Chiropractors treat low back pain on a daily basis and we are trained to evaluate, diagnose the cause of the back pain and treat the appropriate area with chiropractic manipulative therapy (adjustments), muscle work, and we would also teach your husband home care to do at home and exercises to keep the spine stable. Some chiropractors like me have multiple areas of expertise and we are able to use the best treatment appropriate for each patient depending on why they will come to see us. Bottom line, the answer is yes. Chiropractics is an amazing alternative treatment for low back pain, especially if your husband does not wish to start on medication at this time. • After running, my ankles get a shooting pain. Can a chiropractor help?

Hi, Absolutely. We would have to evaluate you first obviously to make sure that it is musculoskeletal related and once the exact cause of your shooting pain is found and any other possible cause ruled out, it would be able to be treated by chiropractic adjustments, muscle work, and therapeutic exercises. I, myself, also use applied kinesiology and Cranio Sacral Therapy, which is another possible way to help. Running is extremely hard on the spine, especially the low back because there is a lot of compression applied to your low back when you run (compared to less compressive sports like biking or swimming), so you need to get checked regularly and get wellness adjustments once your pain is gone. This way it will keep your spine open and stable even when you do run often. Home exercises, strengthening, and stretching to do at home will help keep your body in its optimal state. Hope this helps, Dr. Jessica Grichy, DC READ MORE

  • Can a chiropractor help with spondalytis?

Hi, Absolutely. Spondylosis, spondylitis, and spondylolisthesis can both be helped by chiropractic adjustments. We are trained to diagnoses, evaluate, and treat the spine in its entirety, and spondylosis is really common, especially as we get older, and chiropractic adjustments as well as muscle work and therapeutic exercise (and other specialities like cranio sacral therapy, applied kinesiology, etc.) are extremely helpful with this and should definitely be the primary treatment after anything else had been ruled out during the first complete evaluation at the first appointment. You can definitely advise your mom to go seek a chiropractor for her spondylosis or spondylitis. Hope this helps, Dr. Jessica Grichy, DC READ MORE

  • Can a chiropractor help me get relief from muscle pain?

Hi, Absolutely. A chiropractor will definitely diagnose the exact cause of your muscle pain, evaluate what the best treatment would be, and treat you with chiropractic adjustments, muscle work therapy, and therapeutic exercises in-office and home care. We are trained to treat the whole musculoskeletal system, which is muscles and bone, joints, etc., really specifically, so seeking the help of a chiropractor is your best bet when you have muscle pain. • After healing from a sprain, why do I still feel pressure in my ankle?

Hi, This is a really good question and this question can be answered after you go to get an evaluation at your chiropractor. When you had your strain, your body had to compensate for the lack of motion due to the muscle strain so your whole body had to compensate by overactivating other muscle around or maybe you walked more on the other ankle to avoid pressure and pain in the affected ankle. Even after the signs of strains are resolved (no more swelling, redness, pain, etc.), you still have to make sure that your body is back in the right place, including your spine, pelvis and, obviously, knees, ankles, and feet. The pressure you still feel could be caused by overactive muscles, scar tissue, or sequela from your strain, which didn’t heal completely. Sprain/strains take a long time to completely heal sometimes (over 12 weeks is not uncommon), but you need to make sure that no nerves or muscles or joints around aren’t still needing some attention and possible chiropractic adjustments, muscle work, or strengthening exercises. I would advise you to go seek the opinion of a chiropractor who then, after evaluating you, will be able to give you the exact cause of that lingering pressure. Hope this helps, Dr. Jessica Grichy, DC READ MORE

  • Pulling pain in back in morning. Could it be due to sleeping position?

Hi, There are many different possible causes for back pain in the morning and you will need to go see your chiropractor for a thorough evaluation first so that he/she can diagnose you and tell you exactly why you are feeling this pain. Your sleeping position or your mattress/pillow, etc., could definitely be the cause of your pain and your chiropractor will be able to give you proper treatment and exercises/home care to relieve your pain as soon as other possible causes are ruled out. So, bottom line, go see your chiropractor to get some relief. It’s not fun to wake up with back pain in the morning. Hope this helps, Dr. Jessica Grichy, DC READ MORE

  • Can heel spurs be corrected by a chiropractor?

Hi, Absolutely! Chiropractors are trained to evaluate/treat the whole body and especially the musculoskeletal system. Heel spurs are excessive bone growth on one of the foot bone and can be very painful if left untreated. The most important thing when you have bone spurs is to keep your whole body stable so the least amount of extra pressure is applied on your feet. They often form over time due to repetitive pressure if not due to underlying disease. No matter the cause, there are chiropractic adjustments, muscle work, and especially regular home care/stretches and exercises that can be done to keep the spine/body stable to avoid extra pressure and extra weight applied on the feet. We are on our feet all day so any dysfunction on that part of the body will create compensation from muscles and surrounding joints. Chiropractors are trained to help the body heal itself and will help your body get back to its optimal health and relieve the pain/discomfort from heel spurs. Hope this helps, Dr. Jessica Grichy, DC READ MORE

  • Why does my back crack so much during an adjustment?

Hi, I would love to help you with your question. I always explain it this way to my patients because some people wonder if the noise that you hear is actual bone cracking. Well good news, it's not. Between each spine vertebrae there is a joint space in between with a disc and nerves coming from each side's of the bones. In this joint, there is air and more or less pressure for a dysfunction in the joint. As a chiropractor, we are able to find dysfunction and misalignment inside of those joint and correct them. So when we adjust we move the air inside the joint and it is like opening a bottle of champagne. Because there is so much pressure inside, when you pop the cap it makes a poping sound right? Well, the same happens inside of the joint space during and adjustment. So if there was lots of pressure in, you will hear louder or more sounds and if there wasn't too much pressure, you won't. Sometimes you dont hear a sound at all. Remember that it doesn't matter if you hear a sound or not. The adjustment is still effective and help your body to get back to its optimal state of health to keep your body in total harmony with your mind and your environment. Hope this helps, Enjoy your next adjustment. Dr. Jessica Grichy, DC www.drjessicagrichydc.com P: (213)948-0705 e-mail: drgrichydc@gmail.com "Because your Well-being Matters..." READ MORE

  • Can't turn head right after alignment

Hi, Not being able to turn your head and having shooting pain isn't usually a normal reaction to an adjustment so I would advise you to call the doctor who performed the adjustment and explain the situation. He should be able to evaluate you again and advise you on what to do from there.  Because I am not familiar with your history and symptoms, it would be hard for me to explain exactly why you are feeling this way after your last adjustment. And remember to always trust your instincts if you feel something isn't right.  Hope you feel better soon READ MORE

  • Do chiropractors offer free consultations?

Hi, Chiropractic care will certainly be beneficial for your overall health if you do not have any contraindications for it. The only way to know would be to get an initial consultation. Some offices offer discounted/ free consultation but I would advise you to get a free consultation on the phone to start and have an idea if chiropractic is something you would like to incorporate in your life to keep you in optimal health and keep your body in total harmony with your mind and your environment. I do offer free phone consultation for new patients and I am sure many other providers do too. Hope this helps READ MORE
