  • What are the negative effects of plastic surgery?

Thank you for the question. I don’t seem to understand quite well what you mean by “negative effects.” First of all, plastic surgery is a specialty grossly divided into reconstructive, and esthetic surgery. The first division, reconstructive, takes care of deformities, and injuries that alter the function of appearance of a person’s body part, without getting into the realm of the second division, esthetics, which enhances some characteristics of the person’s body. I particularly do not see any negative effects on any of them. I hope this was of some help. Luis A. Laurentin-Perez, MD PhD. READ MORE

  • Does a lip lift leave a scar?

Thank you for the question. This particular surgery leaves an imperceptible scar around the base of the nose, in a natural crease. Discuss with the plastic surgeon all the questions that you may have about this procedure prior to making any decision. Good luck. Luis A. Laurentin-Perez, MD PhD. READ MORE

  • How long does lip lift take to heal?

Thank you for your question. The healing time after a surgery may vary from person to person. However, in the case of a lip lift, it takes a few weeks to be able to properly see the final result. It is safe to say that around 4-6 weeks the final result may be seen, after the swelling has subsided, and the incision is fully healed. This is a topic to discuss with your treating surgeon. Many factors may contribute to the healing time. Among them, smoking. Luis A. Laurentin-Perez, MD PhD READ MORE

  • How do you sleep after a thigh lift?

Thank you for the question. The best way would be to sleep in a recliner. However, run this question by your surgeon, who should be able to advise on this and other questions that you may have. Luis A. Laurentin-Perez, MD PhD. READ MORE

  • What is the recovery time for ear plastic surgery?

Thank you for the question. The recovery time depends on what type of surgery. If it is for prominent ears, the time is approximately 4-6 weeks. This is a question better asked to the surgeon performing the procedure. Luis A. Laurentin-Perez, MD PhD READ MORE

  • How long does it take to recover from arm lift surgery?

After arm lift surgery, it depends on the amount of tissue removed, but also, if the patient smokes, or has any underlying condition like diabetes. In general, the recovery takes around 8-10 weeks. Make sure that you disclose any underlying condition to your surgeon, and discuss all the questions that you may have. Good luck. Luis A. Laurentin-Perez, MD PhD. READ MORE

  • Do they put you to sleep for ear plastic surgery?

Thank you for the question. In general, these procedures can be done under sedation and regional anesthesia, depending on the procedure to perform. For further answers, contact the surgeon doing your procedure, and enquire about the type of anesthesia preferred. Luis A. Laurentin-Perez, MD PhD READ MORE

  • What is the best hair transplant method?

Thank you for the question. The best transplant method is the micro hair transplant. The difference that the result is much more natural than the plugs that were done before, that would give a doll hair like appearance. This is especially true at the level of the hair line. With this method, very few follicles are transplanted to the balding area. Luis A. Laurentin-Perez, MD PhD READ MORE

  • What is best for surgery scars?

Thank you for the question. It definitely depends on the scar itself. Many can be treated with dermabbrasion. Others, however, may require excision and layered closure. Some will even require radiotherapy. It is important to consult a dermatologist, or a plastic surgeon to evaluate the type of scar, and its location in the body, to come up with the right treatment. Luis A. Laurentin-Perez, MD PhD READ MORE

  • Will my ear pinning surgery be delayed from Covid-19?

Good morning. Thank you for the question. This is a question to ask the institution where you are having the procedure done. The answer usually comes based on the resolution by the county, and the state that you are in. READ MORE

  • How long does laser scar removal last?

Once the scar is removed successfully, it should be permanent, unless a hypertrophic scar or keloid forms. Luis A. Laurentin-Perez, MD PhD. READ MORE

  • Can dermal pigmentation be removed?

Thank you for the question. Hyperpigmentation can be treated with a myriad of esthetic procedures in a medical spa. Way cheaper than a surgical procedure. Be aware that the results are progressive with several sessions. I would encourage you to visit a Medical Spa. Luis A. Laurentin-Perez, MD PhD. READ MORE

  • Can plastic surgery remove facial scars?

Thank you for the question. You need to be evaluated to consider what you mean be “facial scars.” In any case, scars can be excised and closed in a different way to make them less apparent, or use microdermabrasion to improve them. Luis A. Laurentin-Perez, MD PhD. READ MORE

  • Can you get plastic surgery on your hands?

Thank you for the question. In general, you cannot get rejuvenation surgeries for the hand. There is the option of fillers, laser, IPL, and other procedures that can be done. Not surgery. Luis A. Laurentin-Perez, MD PhD READ MORE

  • Are cheek implants a long-term option?

Thank you for the question. If you do implants, they are. However, there is an option. You could have long term filler injected. They last about a year, and you can decide how pronounced or subtle. If you don’t like it, they can be dissolved. It is an option when it comes to $$$. Good luck. Luis A. Laurentin-Perez, MD PhD. • How much weight can you lose with liposuction?

Thank you for the question. There are some liposuction procedures that can massively reduce weight, however, it is not recommendable because it can destabilize your body. Liposuction is a procedure developed for treatment of localized fat. It was not developed for weight loss.in any case, this is a topic to be discussed with the treating surgeon. Good luck. Luis A. Laurentin-Perez, MD PhD READ MORE

  • What is the best age for face lift?

Thank you for the question. I believe that there is no particular age for a facelift. Of course that 25-30 would not be appropriate. However, in my mind it depends on the laxity of the skin, the skin damages, and the changes with gravity and weight loss. You may have a lower facelift, a neck lift or a forehead and brow lift. This is a topic to go over a surgeon in your first visit, or better, with an aesthetician that can make recommendations, based on the aforementioned changes in the skin and facial structures. Good luck! Luis A. Laurentin-Perez, MD PhD. READ MORE

  • Do stretch marks go away on your hands?

Stretch marks imply rupture of elastic fibers in the dermis. You may want to be assessed by a dermatologist to evaluate the condition. In any case, IPL, microneedling and laser, provide very useful procedures to treat these conditions and improve appearance. Good luck! READ MORE

  • How do you get rid of surgery scars?

Thank you for the question. It would be important to see them. Usually what is done is what is called a sacar revision. This implies excising the scar and closing the area s different way. Many times doing scar treatment and compression with a silicone pad and massage may soften, and make scars less apparent. Luis A. Laurentin-Perez, MD PhD. READ MORE

  • What is the most common breast implant size?

Thank you for the question. There is no one size fits all. It depends on complexion, height, and personal preference and recommendation by the plastic surgeon performing the surgery. Definitely a topic to discuss with your surgeon. Usually there are trial implants to try in the office that will give you an approximate final view after surgery. Good luck! READ MORE
