No, teeth may be sore from sensitivity issues, worn or defective restorations or excessive biting forces. READ MORE
What medications are prescribed after a root canal?
Depending on the circumstances, a patient may leave a root canal appointment with a prescription for an antibiotic and/or pain medication. READ MORE
How often to use mouth wash?
There are really two diseases we recommend rinses. The two diseases are tooth decay and periodontal disease. Fluoride rinses are specifically for decay and antiseptic rinses are for gums. For using fluoride rinses, depending on your other fluoride intake, rinse and expectorate should not be a problem. READ MORE
Is it okay to swallow the gel applied for a mouth ulcer?
Usually OTC mouth relief anesthetic contains benzocaine. Moderate use of this gel and swallowing of some of the gel should not be a problem. The tongue and throat may have some momentary loss of feeling. I would not recommend swallowing the material directly from the tube however. READ MORE
Can a gum infection pass to other parts of the body?
Yes, plaques of diseased areas in organs have been cultured and found to have oral microflora or bacteria types. Regular dental appointments, good oral hygiene at home and reduction of dental calculus are important to prevent spreading of bacteria to other parts of the body. READ MORE
What are the most visible signs and symptoms of a gum disease?
Good oral hygiene practices and regular dental visits are important to catch gum disease early. Good overall health, no diabetes, non smoking are all positive for gum health. Watch out for consistently bleeding gums. READ MORE

Teeth grinding is seen as a result of stress and tension. Night guards are routinely placed to protect the teeth from chipping and open the bite dimension to reduce pressure in the jaw joint. Ultimately, the best treatment is to reduce or eliminate the stress and tension. READ MORE

Gaps in between teeth can result from previous posterior teeth having been extracted and not replaced. Missing teeth can allow other teeth to shift in the mouth. When should I consider getting dental implants?
Implants are an outstanding option to replace single teeth or multiple teeth as part of a comprhensive plan. Some patients do not want to file the teeth next to the space for a cemented bridge or they do not want a removable tooth option. An implant can replace a single tooth independently. My tooth in the back is half broken, what should I do?
You can pack the area with a wax or sugar free gum plug until you can get to the dentist. I would recommend seeing a dentist immediately as a tooth broken in half with pain present could have a pulp exposure or involvement that would require a root canal or endodontic treatment to prevent further infection and pain.
