In many cases, yes, an existing failing filling can be replaced. However, if the tooth is fractured or the failed filling is extensive, then you may be better served with a crown. • What should you not do after composite bonding?

Definitely do not use your teeth as tools, so no fingernail biting, biting fish line, tearing potato chip bags, and the like. If you grind your teeth, you should wear a bite guard. If you have sleep apnea, have that treated. Acid in your diet can degrade the surface over time, so watch that. Also, when you get your teeth cleaned, a coarse polishing paste should be avoided on those teeth. Enamelize or something equivalent to polish is best to use by your hygienist. Gary READ MORE

  • How long after dental bonding can I eat?

  • Why do my gums bleed around my crown?

There are a number of possibilities. Make sure you are practicing good home care, like brushing and flossing. Beyond that, if the margin is deep under the gum, residual cement left unremoved, and lastly, if the crown has mediocre to poor fit, this can cause what you describe. Gary READ MORE

  • Can a receding gum line be reversed?
