  • Can an old filling be replaced?

In many cases, yes, an existing failing filling can be replaced. However, if the tooth is fractured or the failed filling is extensive, then you may be better served with a crown. Your dentist should be able to help you visualize the best replacement option by the use of an intra-oral photo showing you why. Gary R. Hubbard, DDS, FAACD READ MORE

  • How do you whiten crowns and veneers?

Unfortunately, you’ll need to replace them if you want a lighter shade. porcelain doesn’t bleach. Gary READ MORE

  • Can bonding help sensitive teeth?

Yes, it can help with root surface exposure, dentin exposure from acid erosion or wear on the front of teeth, or gum line notches otherwise known as abfractions, which can be exquisitely sensitive. Gary READ MORE

  • What hurts more tooth extraction or root canal?

Assuming it makes sense to restore the tooth, you will have less post-procedure discomfort with the root canal. READ MORE

  • What should you not do after composite bonding?

Definitely do not use your teeth as tools, so no fingernail biting, biting fish line, tearing potato chip bags, and the like. If you grind your teeth, you should wear a bite guard. If you have sleep apnea, have that treated. Acid in your diet can degrade the surface over time, so watch that. Also, when you get your teeth cleaned, a coarse polishing paste should be avoided on those teeth. Enamelize or something equivalent to polish is best to use by your hygienist. Gary READ MORE

  • How long after dental bonding can I eat?

    Immediately actually. Gary READ MORE

  • Why do my gums bleed around my crown?

There are a number of possibilities. Make sure you are practicing good home care, like brushing and flossing. Beyond that, if the margin is deep under the gum, residual cement left unremoved, and lastly, if the crown has mediocre to poor fit, this can cause what you describe. Gary READ MORE

  • Can a receding gum line be reversed?

Yes, there are grafting procedures that can be done. You’ll need to consult with a periodontist to see if your situation is possible for this procedure. Hope this helps, Gary READ MORE
