Get to know Psychiatrist Dr. Arlene Z. Roman, who serves patients in Okemos, Michigan.

Dr. Roman is a well-versed adult psychiatrist currently tending to patients at her private practice, Veritas PLC, located in Okemos, Michigan. She established her private practice in 1996 to provide an opportunity for people to develop improved mental and physical balance as they adjust their mental perspective with medication and psychotherapy that can range from supportive, cognitive, insight-oriented, behavioral, and spiritual/meditative.

Professionally, she also serves as a psychiatric consultant for Psychiatric Associates in Okemos, which she joined in 2010. There, she performs diagnostic psychiatric assessment and offers medication management and psychotherapy for mostly adult and geriatric patients.

Since September of 1987, she has maintained status at Sparrow Hospital, learning so much from her colleagues and associates there. Her areas of expertise include psychosomatic disorders, drug and alcohol abuse, trauma, as well as mood and anxiety disorders.

Graduating with her medical degree from the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in 1987, Dr. Roman went on to perform her internship at Hurley Medical Center in 1988. This was followed by a residency in psychiatry at Michigan State University in 1991.

A member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, she is board-certified in psychiatry and psychosomatic medicine by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the professions of psychiatry and neurology.

With nearly three decades of experience, Dr. Roman attributes her success to her work ethic, her colleagues, and her friends for helping her stay focused.

Psychiatry is the medical specialty devoted to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of mental disorders. These include various maladaptations related to mood, behavior, cognition, and perceptions. Psychiatrists evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. They conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, develop treatment plans, prescribe medication, and evaluate treatment results.

Outside of the office, Dr. Roman enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, and traveling. Her favorite professional publication is the New England Journal of Medicine.
