    Excess hair growth may be genetic and is more prevalent in certain ethnicities.   • Can fibroids cause issues in pregnancy?

    The size and location of a fibroid is important in understanding how the fibroid may impact a pregnancy. Most fibroids are incidental findings. Other times fibroids can cause pain, they can compete for blood flow with the pregnancy, fibroids can bleed and they can cause increased chance of premature contractions. There are numerous other conditions that fibroids can cause during a pregnancy. If the fibroid is removed prior to pregnancy it may weaken the uterine muscle.   • Do I have genital warts or herpes

    The best way to confirm a diagnosis is by having the lesion evaluated by a health care professional. HPV and HSV are both a viruses that can effect the genital area. Certain strains of the HPV can cause genital warts which look like bumps and are typically not painful. These can be excised or certain medications can be used to rid them. HSV is a virus that resides in a nerve that can erupt on the skin surface. When this occurs a painful ulcer(s) is noted. This can be treated with a medication to either treat a flare or can be used to suppress frequent occurrences. Both of these viruses are contagious. Both of these viruses are sexually transmitted.     If menstrual cramps are severe then it is best to have a visit with a health care professional to make certain there is nothing serious going on. A pelvic exam, sometimes accompanied by an ultrasound, can confirm normal anatomy. Once this has been assessed, conditions such as endometriosis, ovarian cyst, fibroids, etc. have been excluded then an over the counter pain reliever can be tried.     First and foremost make certain that you are not demonstrating any renal or cardiovascular conditions that can otherwise impact your health. If not, then swelling of the lower extremities is not uncommon. Wearing support stockings may be helpful to reduce swelling during the daytime.   • I recently experienced an ectopic pregnancy. How did this happen?

    An ectopic pregnancy is when the fertilized egg, embryo, implants into the fallopian tube instead of the uterine lining. When caught early this can sometimes be treated with a medication called Methotrexate along with close supervision. Sometimes ectopic pregnancies require surgery which entails opening the tube and removing the ectopic or removing the tube along with the ectopic. The decision which procedure to perform is determined at surgery based on the amount of bleeding, the size of the ectopic, if there is any tube to salvaged and the woman's reproductive plans in the future. Often times ectopic pregnancies occur without an obvious cause. Women who have had pelvic infection, prior surgery in the lower abdomen or pelvis and previous ectopic pregnancies have a higher risk.     Sitting in a war bathtub or placing a warm compress on the area may help this boil to resolve. If it is very tender, if it is associated with a fever or if there is a large are f surrounding redness then it is advisable to see a health care professional.   • I was diagnosed with inflammed pelvic disease that caused blockages. Will I ever be able to concieve?

    Blocked fallopian tubes are diagnosed with either a SHG or HSG. If both tubes are blocked, then options to promote fertility would be surgery to reduce and remove scar tissue or to undergo IVF because this bypasses the tubes. In a woman who conceives with a history of PID or blocked tubes, she needs to be monitored early in the pregnancy to rule out an ectopic pregnancy. READ MORE
