  • Can you have an implant without a bone graft?

It is possible, however, the amount of bone in the site determines the size of the implant "if" one can be placed in the site. Sometimes the bone is necessary to allow for enough support for the implant. READ MORE

  • How do you get the swelling to go down after a dental implant?

Swelling is a natural part of having surgery. The most common way is to take anti-inflammatory medication as directed by your surgeon or as instructed on the bottle. It is important to reduce activity for the first few days. You must rest! Relax. Allow your body to heal itself. You also want to incorporate a soft diet for at least 72 hours. I hope this helps! Drinking through a straw has no benefits whatsoever when it comes to preventing cavities and staining of the teeth. READ MORE

  • How do you clean under a bridge?

Hello, There are a few ways to clean under your bridge. You may use "superfloss" to get in the space between the gum tissue and the bridge. Floss threaders are helpful. Waterpiks also flush food particles and debris from the space between the gums and bridge. It is best to have your dentist or hygienist go over proper flossing techniques for your specific needs. • What is wrong in my mouth?

Hello, Since you had a really bad toothache recently and woke up with a swollen lip, it is possible the tooth could be infected. The next course of action should be to contact your dentist for an emergency visit for further investigation. More information is needed to make a proper diagnosis and treatment. I hope this helps. • How do you make your teeth stop hurting after eating sweets?

Sensitivity to sweets are an indication that you likely have a cavity. The best thing to do is schedule an appointment to have X-rays taken and an examination. If cavities are present, it’s best to treat them appropriately. I highly recommend that you be seen soon. The sooner you address the problem, the more likely you can save your tooth/teeth. READ MORE

  • Does massaging gums help toothaches?

Thank you for that question. Massaging your gums may only provide temporary relief. If you have a toothache, you must contact your dentist office and have an examination done. A toothache creates a domino effect. Ignoring a toothache leads to much bigger problems. Please don't tarry about getting in to see your dentist. READ MORE

  • What happens if you take off your braces early?

It is important to finish your treatment. If you must have them removed, you should consult your orthodontist about if your bite is okay. • Should new dentures be loose?

Great question. Dentures may be loose for multiple reasons. The amount of bone level a person has affects the fit. The more bone you have, the better the fit will be. Another reason they may fit loosely is sometimes there was a recent extraction and the tissue was swollen when they were made. When the swelling shrinks, the dentures fit loosely. If your new dentures are loose, you may need to have them relined. Return to the dentist who made them and inform them. Dana Truesdale, DDS READ MORE

  • Can bonding help receding gums?

Great question. Bonding will not prevent receding gum lines. It can however improve the appearance of the recession. Receding gingiva has multiple causes. It is best to follow up with your dentist. Dana Truesdale, DDS READ MORE

  • Do you get gum pockets with braces?

You may get gingivitis or swelling of your gums during teeth movement. The key to keeping things under control is brushing often and flossing daily. Rinse with a mouthwash to keep debris from accumulating. Dana Truesdale, DDS READ MORE

  • Are cavities contagious?

Great question! Let’s break down what cavities are. Cavities are “holes” in teeth caused by bacteria which softens the hard tissue causing them to break down. The bacteria can and does spread from tooth to tooth over time. Sometimes the spreading of this bacteria is rapid. I hope this helps! READ MORE

  • Can a root canal be done through an existing crown?

Yes. The crown may have to be replaced afterwards. Dana Truesdale, DDS READ MORE

  • Should a crowned tooth be sensitive?

Great Question. It is not unusual to experience sensitivity for a while with a new crown. There are different variations of sensitivity one may experience. If the discomfort comes while chewing foods, consider returning to your dentist for an adjustment. If it is just random discomfort, you may try switching to a sensitivity toothpaste for a few weeks. Be sure and floss daily because gingivitis may cause sensitivity. I strongly advise mentioning it to your provider so that he or she can test the tooth in order to determine if further treatment is needed. Dana Truesdale, DDS READ MORE

General dentists also address overall health concerns, as oral health is seen as the mirror of general health. In fact, some dental problems may reflect issues in other parts of the body and vice versa.
