About
Kevin T. Kelly, MD, is a board certified ophthalmologist with Retina Group of Florida, which he joined in 2012 as a Vitreoretinal specialist, heading up the Wellington office. Dr. Kelly has practiced in Palm Beach County since 1996, and began his ophthalmic career as Director of the Retina Center at the Neumann Eye Institute in Deland, Florida. Dr. Kelly graduated from Rutgers University in New Jersey with degrees in Chemical Engineering and Biology, and was a member of Tau Beta Pi, the Honor Society of Engineers. He earned his Medical Degree at Rutgers University Medical School, served his medical internship at Staten Island Hospital and completed his Ophthalmology residency at SUNY-Downstate Medical Center. Dr. Kelly continued his training by fulfilling a two-year fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery and Retina Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He earned his certification from the American Board of Ophthalmology in 1988. In his practice, Dr. Kelly has focused particular interest in innovative treatments for diabetic retinopathy and its basic science. He has presented at ARVO, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, and was one of the first surgeons in Florida to treat macular holes. Dr. Kelly is a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Association of Research and Ophthalmology, and the Schepens Society. He currently serves as Treasurer of the Palm Beach County Ophthalmology Society. Dr. Kelly resides in Wellington with his wife Linda and their two daughters, Gloria and Natalie. He has been an enthusiastic lacrosse fan for many years, and maintains his passion for the sport by refereeing high school lacrosse games.

Can floaters be cured with eye drops?
This depends on the etiology of the floaters. Common, everyday floaters are usually benign and are secondary to the changes of the vitreous humor associated with aging. What happens if I wear contacts too long?

How long after a vitrectomy can you drive?
Depends on what the vitrectomy was for and what was required to treat the underlying condition. Simple straight forward vitrectomy for hemorrhage or vitreous opacities can return relatively quickly to daily routines. What is the difference between cryotherapy and laser treatment for retinal tears?
Cryotherapy uses a freezing technique applied to the tear to initiate a seal of a retinal break. Laser uses high intensity light to initiate a sealing burn around a retinal break. Laser offers less inflammation but requires a clear view not obscured by cataract or hemorrhage. READ MORE
