Furthermore, he is board-certified through the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology and the National Board of Echocardiography.

Attributing his success to his perseverance, Dr. Cabrera chose a career in medicine to help people in need and to provide comfort to patients and their family members. He chose this specialty because he was fascinated with the physiology of the heart and its relationship with the rest of the body. The most rewarding thing about being a doctor to him is seeing his patients improve, feel better, and do activities they weren’t able to do before treatment.

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system).

When he is not in the office, Dr. Cabrera is watching sports (especially soccer and tennis), playing with his children, and spending quality time with his family. His alternative career choice would be as a sports journalist, because of his love for sports. His favorite professional publication is the New England Journal of Medicine, and his weakness is a good piece of chocolate – he just can’t resist it.

Rafael E. Cabrera-Salinas, MD, FACC, attended Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia/ Cayetano Heredia University in Lima, Peru, and was awarded his medical degree in 2004. Upon relocating to the United States, he conducted his residency at the Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, Michigan (2009-2013).
