Arthur M. Freeman III, MD, is an adult psychiatrist in Birmingham, Alabama. He studied philosophy and chemistry at Harvard University, graduated from Vanderbilt Medical School and trained in Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins University and the University of London. He has practiced psychiatry and taught psychiatry residents at Stanford, UAB, the University of Tennessee and LSU shreveport (the latter where he was Chair of Psychiatry and Dean of the Medical School). Dr. Freeman served as president of the Southern Psychiatric Association. He has been on the Board of Regents of the American College of Psychiatrists and is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. Dr. Freeman has published over 90 scientific papers, and has conducted more than 100 clinical trials for new drugs in Psychiatry. His book Psychiatry for the Primary Care Physician won Behavioral Medicineâ??s Top Ten Psychiatry Books of the Year award. Dr. Freeman is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and served as an examiner on that Board for 25 years. In 2009, Dr. Freeman was honored by the Indian Springs School as â??Alumnus of the Year.â? He was also presented the local and regional Vocational Awards by the Rotary Club of Shades Valley. He serves on the Board of the Birmingham Committee of Foreign Relations. In addition, Dr. Freeman has studied Theology at Oxford University.
