Niraj C. Patel, MD, MS, is Assistant Professor, Pediatric Infectious Disease and Immunology at the Levine Childrenâ??s Hospital at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. He is also Director and Founder of the Immunodeficiency Clinic established in 2009 to provide diagnosis and treatment for pediatric and adult patients with recurrent infections, primary and secondary immune deficiencies, complement disorders, and those receiving antibody replacement therapy. Dr. Patel earned his medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Louisville, Kentucky, where he also completed an internship and residency in Pediatrics. He then did fellowships in Pediatric Infectious Diseases and Allergy/Immunology at Texas Childrenâ??s Hospital, Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Dr. Patel is board-certified in pediatrics, pediatric infectious diseases, and allergy and immunology. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of the Infectious Disease Society of America, Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society, American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, and Clinical Immunology Society. Dr. Patel is author or coauthor of more than a dozen peer-reviewed publications, a dozen published abstracts, as well as numerous poster presentations, oral presentations, and other published communications. He is a frequently invited guest lecturer and is currently the principal investigator for a multicenter trial evaluating the safety and efficacy of subcutaneous immunoglobulin in infants and children younger than 5 years of age. In 2011, Dr. Patel was voted one of Charlotte Magazineâ??s â??Top Doctorsâ? by his peers.
