Get to know Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. John J. Kastrup, who served patients in Henderson, Nevada.
A board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Kastrup has been a member of Nevada Orthopedic & Spine Center since January of 2009.
Committed to excellence, he practices with the most current techniques in joint replacement, utilizes the rapid recovery protocol, and uses cutting edge pain management techniques, which allow patients to recover from surgery without the use of intravenous narcotics. Along with the treatment of immediate or chronic problems, he strives to integrate the doctrine of prevention in all his treatment plans as a way to alleviate possible future difficulties.
Specializing in the treatment of a variety of orthopedic conditions, he performs several orthopedic procedures including: joint replacement, minimally invasive hip and knee replacements, partial knee replacements, custom fit knee replacements, knee and shoulder arthroscopy, as well as rotator cuff repair. In fact, Dr. Kastrup was one of the first surgeons in the United States to provide minimally invasive hip replacements.
Licensed to practice medicine in Nevada, his hospital affiliations include: St. Rose Dominican Hospitals Rose de Lima Campus, St. Rose Dominican Hospitals Siena Campus, St. Rose Dominican Hospitals San Martin Campus, Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center, Southwest Medical Associates Ambulatory Surgery Center, Southern Hills Hospital & Medical Center, and Valley Health System hospitals.
Raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, Dr. Kastrup received his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Cincinnati. While attending university, he was involved with the original pioneer research on Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Reconstruction of the Knee. He then received his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1988. During medical school, he did research focused on Mallet Finger Injuries and his outcomes are referenced in multiple orthopedic textbooks.
After medical school, Dr. Kastrup went on to perform his internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at UPMC Hamot. This was followed by an additional year of training in adult reconstruction at the Cleveland Clinic, where his fellowship involved the treatment of arthritis and joint replacement for the shoulder, hip, and knee.
Attributing his success to his good training and background, he is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.
Supporting the Arthritis Foundation, Dr. Kastrup is dedicated in his practice to finding a cure for the disease. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and a member of the Clark County Medical Society.
