Get to know Oncologist Dr. Mainuddin Ahmed, who serves the population of Tullahoma, Tennessee. Dr. Ahmed graduated from the Meharry Medical College in 1979, giving him over four decades of experience in his field. After obtaining his medical degree he completed his residency with Alvin C York Veteran’s Hospital. Wanting to further his training he then completed his Medical Oncology with the University of Tennessee. Dr. Ahmed is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. To stay up to date in his field he remains a professional member of the American Medical Association and the Texas Medical Association. He currently practices with Tennessee Oncology and is affiliated with Winchester Hospital and Tennova Healthcare. He holds an expertise in Medical Oncology. Oncology is the branch of medicine that researches, identifies and treats cancer. A physician who works in the field of oncology is an oncologist. Oncologists must first diagnose a cancer, which is usually carried out via biopsy, endoscopy, X-ray, CT scanning, MRI, PET scanning, ultrasound or other radiological methods. Nuclear medicine can also be used to diagnose cancer, as can blood tests or tumor markers.
