Can plastic surgery remove burn scars?
Generally, yes. Size and location of the scar need to be looked at. If small, an excision and closure may be done. The closure will show a linear "scar" that is cosmetically not as "obvious" Also, one's age is important. Older patients have looser skin that also don't scar as much -- less collagen. Sometimes a full thickness skin graft taken from the neck may be applicable. Sometimes a skin expander may be applicable to obtain more skin prior to obtain more skin. Nevertheless, there will be post op "scars" -- only less noticeable. There are other choices. The plastic surgeon needs to see the patient. READ MORE
