Life after a stroke?
A Physiatrist is a Rehab Doctor who specializes in developing and managing comprehensive rehab programs for patients who have sustained a stroke. You could expect to see the Physiatrist for an office appointment, and receive a prescription for some form of therapy program, such as home health or outpatient therapy, that would include physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and neuropsychology. Post joint replacement
A physiatrist is a rehab doctor and could be the physician prescribing and overseeing your physical therapy. A physiatrist would not be the one doing physical therapy with you. Sometimes, surgeons are comfortable prescribing and overseeing physical therapy, so it would depend upon the practice and recommendation of your orthopedic surgeon. READ MORE
I'm only 23 and experiencing knee pain during exercise. Why?
Given your age, the fact that it is bilateral (affects both sides), and is associated with activities, it is much more likely an overuse injury like patello-femoral syndrome. This would present as pain in the front of the knee. Iliotibial band could be another cause, as well as injury to the various ligaments and cartilage structures in the knee. A good history and physical exam by a physician would help greatly with narrowing down the diagnosis. Given your family history of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), however, this should be considered in the workup. RA is typically associated with morning stiffness and impacts at least 3 joints, frequently joints in the hands. A physician would be able to determine if this is the cause with a good history and physical exam, as well as x-rays and lab tests. READ MORE
