Cynthia Wolfensberger, MD, earned her medical degree at the University of Zürich Faculty of Medicine in Zurich, Switzerland. She began her career working at the University Hospital of Zurich in radiology prior to discovering her passion for plastic surgery. More than 8,200 employees from 90 countries work at the University Hospital Zurich. They include 1,500 doctors, 2,600 highly trained nursing professionals and 900 medico-therapeutic and medico-technical employees. In addition, there are 2,000 employees in non-medical and support areas such as finance, IT, facility management and catering. At the UHZ, a total of 120 occupations are represented by more than 500 roles. The next step on the her career journey was a surgical position in Männedorf. The second surgery position was in Frauenfeld. She went on to work in a burn unit treating children. In her role she learned there was not just a physical component to the healing process but a psychological one as well and got involved in treating their psyche as well as their physical burns. This role led to her involvement in plastic and restorative surgery at Cantonal Hospital of Basel and at the University of Basel. Wolfensberger open her own practice beginning in 2000. As a plastic surgeon, she has dedicated training and unique experience in the restoration, reconstruction, or alteration of the body. She performs reconstructive surgery which includes microsurgery, and the treatment of burns. She also performs elective cosmetic procedures with the intention to improve a person’s cosmetic appearance.
