Being a board-certified neuropathologist, Dr. Kleinman’s special clinical interests include brain tumor and skeletal muscle pathology. Since 2013, he has been serving as the Director of Neuropathology & Autopsy Service at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, New York.

The flagship of WMCHealth, Westchester Medical Center is a 415-bed academic hospital, one of three hospitals located on the network’s Valhalla campus. Founded in 1917, Westchester Medical Center is the regional hub of tertiary and quaternary care and is the primary referral facility for other hospitals, serving as a lifeline for more than 2.4 million people in the Hudson Valley. Its mission is to provide the highest quality care for all residents of the Hudson Valley, regardless of their ability to pay, providing a network that ensures access to a coordinated continuum of care for its community.

Back in 1974, Dr. Kleinman graduated with his medical degree from the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. He then went on to perform his residency in anatomic & clinical pathology at Massachusetts General Hospital, followed by his fellowship at Tufts Medical Center. 

A Fellow of the College of American Pathologists, the doctor is board-certified in anatomic pathology & neuropathology by the American Board of Pathology (ABPath). The mission of the ABPath, a member of the American Board of Medical Specialties, is to serve the public and advance the profession of pathology by setting certification standards and promoting lifelong competency of pathologists.

Alongside his clinical role, Dr. Kleinman serves as an Associate Professor of Pathology & Associate Professor of Neurosurgery within the Department of Pathology at the Graduate School of Basic Medical Sciences of New York Medical College.

The Department of Pathology at New York Medical College supports multiple research laboratories at the New York Medical College campus in Westchester County, and diagnostic anatomic and clinical pathology laboratories in its major teaching hospital, Westchester Medical Center. It is heavily involved in teaching medical students at New York Medical College, and offers a range of pre-doctoral graduate programs in experimental pathology at the Graduate School of Basic Medical Sciences. In addition to post-doctoral programs at the Graduate School of Basic Medical Sciences, the Department offers accredited residencies in anatomic and clinical pathology for qualified medical school graduates at Westchester Medical Center.

Neuropathology is the study of disease of nervous system tissue, usually in the form of either small surgical biopsies or whole-body autopsies. Neuropathologists spend most of their time making diagnoses of tumours, inflammatory disorders, and infections. Like their colleagues in other areas of cellular pathology, they are responsible for post-mortem analysis, looking at neural (brain) tissues to study dementia, investigate genetic conditions, and assess trauma.
