About

ModernMed Recovery is guided by the philosophy that addiction is a chronic neuro-biologic medical condition and that it requires the same respect that any other medical condition does.

It goes beyond a 28 day program and requires medication, a  life style change and emotional support.

Led by the award winning Dr Kenji Oyasu who’s background is Emergency Medicine and Addiction Medicine rather than the typical psychiatry, he believes in a more “hands-on” approach.

MMR implements a “concierge style” practice that gives more access to the medical providers than other programs and has higher long term meaningful recovery as a result.

Dr Oyasu keeps the practice limited to allow for better relationships with his patients and enjoys a 5 star google rating for his team.

Get to know Emergency Physician Dr. Kenji Oyasu, who serves patients throughout Illinois.

Dr. Oyasu is the Founder and Executive Medical Director of ModernMed Recovery, with offices in Park Ridge and Lindenhurst, Illinois. He actively manages and provides physician oversight for the medication-assisted treatment of patients struggling with substance abuse.

His 25 years as an emergency room physician exposed him to the growing epidemic of opioid addiction, along with the lack of treatment resources, so he felt the need to create a practice where patients are treated by caring providers with professionalism and compassion. He has a special interest in linking the success of in-patient detoxification with long-term meaningful recovery.  The modern philosophy of recognizing addiction as a neurobiologic, genetic and environmental condition and the compassionate treatment for the disease process has earned him a 5 star google rated practice in the Chicago metro area.

With the increasingly popular telemedicine platform, his reach has extended beyond the borders of  Illinois where he is licensed in other states.

An expert in his field, the doctor is board-certified in both Addiction Medicine and Emergency Medicine specialty with certifications recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties.

Educated in the United States, Dr. Oyasu earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He then went on to further his training by completing a residency in emergency medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Professionally, he currently serves on the board of directors for the Lake County Opioid Initiative and medical committee for the Chicago Area Opioid Task Force. He has been recognized locally and nationally as an advocate for compassionate treatment of this very special patient population.

As an Emergency medicine physician, Dr Oyasu is a regional medical director for American Physician Partners and provides physician oversight for emergency room contract management in multiple hospitals in Illinois. The emergency room is often the last resort for many patients that suffer from addiction and he is a strong advocate for beginning medication to manage addiction from the ER.
