With a broad educational background, Dr. Shah earned his medical degree from the Ross University School of Medicine in Bridgetown, Barbados. After completing his residency in internal medicine at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in Farmington, he was awarded a fellowship in hematology/oncology at Moffitt Cancer Center through the University of South Florida in Tampa.

Subsequent to his education, he attained board certification in internal medicine, hematology, and medical oncology through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Prior to medical school, Dr. Shah worked with Dr. Sohail Husain studied at the Yale University School of Medicine for four years, yielding high impact publications in various peer-reviewed journals including The American Journal of Physiology, Gastroenterology and The Journal of Biological Chemistry. He was also a recipient of a prestigious American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) research fellowship award. 

Hematology is the branch of medicine concerned with the study of the cause, prognosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases related to blood. Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. A hematologist-oncologist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of cancer, malignant blood diseases such as leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma, and blood disorders such as iron-deficiency anemia, clotting abnormalities, hemophilia, sickle-cell disease, and a rare hematologic related syndromes, and diseases.

With a strong background in research with a focus on diseases of the pancreas, Dr. Shah has presented his work at international conferences including The American Pancreatic Association Meeting and Digestive Disease Week.

Passionate about humanitarian work, Dr. Shah has volunteered his time for various charitable organizations, including Humanity First, an international nonprofit organization that provides disaster relief and long-term development assistance in vulnerable communities. He enjoys studying biological sciences, history, philosophy, and spending time with his wife and two boys.
