Can substance abuse lead to a heart attack?
It is possible for substance use to lead to a heart attack. If someone is using stimulants such as cocaine, amphetamines or methamphetamines regardless of whether they are prescribed medications or illegal substances it can lead to a heart attack. There are times too when overuse of drugs that are depressants can lead to a person's heart slowing down so much that it can be fatal as well. If you have concerns for your family member, it is best to let him know you are concerned and seek help for him and your family through a licensed professional. Clinical psychology is a broad branch of psychology that focuses on diagnosing and treating mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. Some of the more common disorders that might be treated include mood disorders like depression, anxiety, or bipolar disorder, in addition to trauma influenced problems such as personality disorders and behavioral difficulties like eating disorders. Licensed clinical psychologists meet with patients to identify problems – emotional, mental, and behavioral – occurring within their lives. Through observation, interviews, and psychological tests, they aim to diagnose any existing disorders or difficulties for their patients.
One of the most sought-after clinical speakers in this field, Dr. Little is constantly invited to speak as an expert, to teach others, and to share her passion for the recovery she knows is in each individual. She is particularly known for her understanding of working with adolescents and their families.
