Get to know Breast Surgeon Dr. Caroline Schreeder, who serves patients in Huntsville, Alabama.

A skilled general surgeon specializing in breast surgery, Dr. Schreeder is affiliated with Huntsville Hospital Clinic for Breast Care. She can also be found on staff at Huntsville Hospital Main, Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children, and Madison Hospital.

Huntsville Hospital was established in 1895 and is a community-based, not-for-profit hospital located in Madison County, Alabama. As a safety net, not-for-profit hospital, it is the regional referral center for north Alabama and south central Tennessee, providing tertiary health care for a 15-county service area of more than 1.3 million people, regardless of their ability to pay.

Back in 2010, Dr. Schreeder graduated with her medical degree from the McGovern Medical School at UTHealth. She completed her residency in general surgery at the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in 2015, and her fellowship in breast surgical oncology at the Washington Hospital Center in 2020.

Following her training, the doctor is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.

General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland. A general surgeon performs a wide range of abdominal surgeries for many forms of intestinal and abdominal wall neoplasms, gallbladder disease, gastric and pancreatic disease. They follow the patient through critical care and surgical recovery all the way to outpatient care.
