Get to know Acupuncturist Dr. Stephanie A. Lum, who serves patients in San Rafael, California. 

Dr. Lum is a licensed acupuncturist, herbalist, respiratory care therapist, and rehabilitation therapist. Many of Dr. Lum’s patients have come to her through referrals from traditional western medical practitioners. She has worked in rehabilitation for ten years, helping patients to organize and manage their disabilities. Her combined Eastern and Western medical experience set her apart from other providers.

Dr. Lum has over 30 years of experience in respiratory intensive care, rehabilitation, pediatrics, neonatal, and psychiatric care. She has provided services at major area hospitals, including Stanford University Hospital, the Children’s Hospital in San Francisco, Kentfield Rehabilitation Hospital, and Sequoia Hospital.

Dr. Lum specializes in respiratory care, allergies, menopause, premenstrual syndrome, prenatal care, pain control, tendonitis, arthritis, sports injuries, scar therapy, and addictions. She is people-oriented and provides personalized care to her patients.

Dr. Lum graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in oriental medicine from the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in San Francisco, California in 1985. She earned Doctor of Oriental Medical degree in Hong Kong in 1988. 

Dr. Lum is a past member of Marin Soroptimist and the Marin Women’s Business Owners’ Association. She is a board member and Director of the California Acupuncture Association. She is also involved in the Novato Charter School Foundation. 

Dr. Lum has published many articles in her early years of practice between 1985 and 1990.

Dr. Lum attributes her success to her immigrant parents who gave her excellent life advice. Her mother always told her “Don’t think about it, just do it”, and her father told her to become an independent woman who can take care of herself.

Acupuncture is a form of alternative medicine and a key component of traditional Chinese medicine in which thin needles are inserted into the body. Acupuncturists treat a variety of physical and psychological issues like hypertension or anxiety. The practice is also used to maintain general health.
