Dr. Lum graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in oriental medicine from the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in San Francisco, California in 1985. She earned Doctor of Oriental Medical degree in Hong Kong in 1988. 

Dr. Lum is a past member of Marin Soroptimist and the Marin Women’s Business Owners’ Association. She is a board member and Director of the California Acupuncture Association. She is also involved in the Novato Charter School Foundation. 

Dr. Lum has published many articles in her early years of practice between 1985 and 1990.
