Having always known he wanted to work with children, Dr. Chafin couldn’t be happier with his profession as a pediatric dentist. When he opened Firefly Pediatric Dentistry, he did so to promote a relaxing and fun environment where children and their parents are treated like family.
He is enthusiastic about accepting patients, no matter who they are, where they came from, or the level of dental care they require. He bases treatment decisions on proven research, and offers traditional as well as biologically friendly care. Above all, he approaches infants, toddlers, children, teenagers, and special needs patients with kindness and a genuine desire to help establish healthy dental habits and routines that will guide them towards optimal oral health for life and a smile that makes a powerful impression through adulthood.
Born and raised in Florence, Alabama, Dr. Chafin moved to Nashville to obtain his undergraduate degree at Lipscomb University. Following, he enrolled in dental school at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry, where his interest in pediatric dentistry flourished. He completed a residency in pediatric dentistry at the New York University College of Dentistry, and then he and his wife moved back to Tennessee, where he opened his practice in Franklin.
With years of experience in pediatric dental training, Dr. Chafin has worked alongside other children’s dental professionals to perfect his skills. He is ready to take on any aspect of children’s dental care, from restorative and sedation dentistry to special needs dentistry and preventive care.
Prestigious professional dental organizations of which he is a member of include: the Christian Medical & Dental Associations and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
Treating patients with the ultimate level of respect and concern for their well-being, Dr. Chafin is board-certified through the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD). The mission of the ABPD is to certify pediatric dentists through a voluntary examination process that continuously validates their knowledge, skills, and experience for delivering quality patient outcomes.
Pediatric dentistry is the branch of dentistry dealing with children from birth through adolescence. A pediatric dentist specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of the dental problems of children from infancy to young adulthood. They usually care for special needs patients as well.
Attributing his success to his determination and the support of his wife, Dr. Chafin has presented research at numerous conferences and in scientific journals including: AAPD Annual Session – 2017; New York University College of Dentistry Research Scholarship Expo – 2017; University of Alabama at Birmingham Comprehensive Center for Healthy Aging 21st Annual Scientific Symposium – 2013; and Tennessee Academy of Science – 2007.
He is happily married to his wife Kayla, who he met at Lipscomb University and married in 2012. They have a black and white Shih Tzu named Willow, who wears a ponytail along with many adorable bows. The two couldn’t be happier living near their families, where they enjoy supporting local businesses and music venues, trying new restaurants, attending local events, and experiencing new places.
