I'm having trouble using the bathroom after surgery?
Hi! Thank you for your question. Not knowing the specifics of your case I can only generalize my response. You should be at least passing gas. That is the most important thing. If you are passing gas, then bowel movements should eventually come. Sometimes eating ice chips, hard candy (peppermint, etc.) and chewing gum can help stimulate things to move forward. Are you taking a lot of pain meds? This can also slow down your ability to have bowel movements. Lastly, if you are not passing gas greater than 24 hours you should speak to your surgeon or be evaluated in the ED. Feel better soon. READ MORE
