  • Every Dermatologist Should Love Acne :-)

Christopher Ugorji Rex, M.D.  FAAD In dermatology we treat all skin, hair and nail conditions. As a skin specialist I am constantly wrestling to discover the causes and best treatments for several skin conditions. Unfortunately for a lot of conditions we are nowhere close to finding the best...

  • How do moles and freckles differ?

Both Moles and Freckles are caused by melanocytes which are the cells that give us our pigment. However, when these cells collect together in increased numbers in one area of skin they are called moles. Freckles are increased levels of pigment in areas of the skin like cheeks, nose, and arms that occur in people who are genetically predisposed to this. Examples are people of Irish decent READ MORE

  • Do Biore Pore strips help remove blackheads?

Biore can help clear some clogged pores. There will always be deposits of sebacous material in your pores because there are glands present there that produce this material. So having permanently clear pores is not possible. Also note that some people are genetically predisposed to open pores. Open pores are not a disease to be fixed. READ MORE

  • Is peeling a sign of dry skin?

It is hard to answer this without examining your skin. There is a condition call Keratolysis Exfoliativa that leads to occasional peeling of hands and soles. This is not caused by anything in particular and usually resolves on its own. READ MORE

  • Are whiteheads around lips common?

White heads around the lips may be Milia which are keratin or oil filled spots. I would really have to see your lips to give you a more precise differential diagnosis. Also, some lip spots that may be thought to be black heads are Fordyce spots. Do a Google imagine search. I hope this helps. Here to serve, Dr. Rex READ MORE

  • Does mole removal always result in scarring?

I feel your concern regarding your mole. Mole removal and scarring depend heavily on technique of removal. If your mole is small enough that it can be removed using a punch technique, you will end up with sutures and a line in place of a raised mole. So, you will need to decide what you will rather have, "Your current mole or a line likely the length of your current mole." The other technique, "Shave removal," I will state you should avoid at all cost. It will leave a flat patch in place of your mole, but has more of a chance of scarring. Also, look at other parts of your body where you have injured your skin. The way they healed can give you an idea how well you will heal if you go through with surgery. Hope this helps. Here to serve, Dr. Rex :-) READ MORE

  • Does Accutane remove acne scars?

Accutane is a great medication for treating acne but unfortunately it does not treat scars. It will help prevent new cyst and hence new scars. First step will be to get on accutane and stop the acne attacks. After the acne is under control you can look into scar treatments such as lasers treatments, chemical peels, micro-needling, etc. Accutane is great for acne. READ MORE

  • Can kidney stones affect bowel movements?

Kidney stones cause pain sometime so severe that patients are put on pain medications. Several pain medications especial opioids cause constipation. Your irregular bowel movement may be due to the pain medications you're on. The blood in your urine is most likely because of the stones. You should report both things to you doctor ASAP. • Could the pain in my joints be gout?

If you have a past diagnosis of gout, this could be a flare. However, I am concerned that your hip hurts as well. I recommend you go see you personal care physician (PCP) for a close evaluation and a diagnosis. READ MORE
