Get to know Emergency Physician Dr. Elizabeth Johnson, who serves patients in Hoboken, New Jersey.

Specializing in emergency medicine, Dr. Johnson assesses patients who seek immediate medical attention at any time of day or night at Hoboken University Medical Center.

Hoboken University Medical Center is a hospital located in Hoboken, New Jersey. It was founded in 1863 as St. Mary Hospital and operated under that name until 2007. The hospital is owned by Hudson Hospital Opco, known as CarePoint Health, a for-profit organization that also owns Bayonne Medical Center and Christ Hospital. Its mission is “to treat our patients with compassion and lead through innovation in order to improve the health of the communities we serve.”

Academically, Dr. Johnson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Chemistry, and Leadership Studies from the University of Denver, and a Master of Public Health degree from New York Medical College. 

Upon graduating with her medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in 2013, she went on to serve as a Clinical Research Associate at Lincoln Medical Center in the Bronx, New York. In June of 2018, she completed her residency in emergency medicine at the said establishment. 

Concerned about the worsening opioid epidemic for several years, Dr. Johnson first became involved in public policy work surrounding the issue while a Health Policy Fellow for Congressman Raul Ruiz. She served as the Clinical Director of the Lincoln Hospital Opioid Overdose Prevention Program where she worked closely with representatives at the NY Department of Health, addiction specialists at the hospital, and various other departments, to acquire and distribute intranasal naloxone kits. 

With a commitment to her speciality, she remains a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians, which is a professional organization of emergency medicine physicians in the United States.

Emergency medicine, also known as accident and emergency medicine, is the medical specialty concerned with the care of illnesses or injuries requiring immediate medical attention. An emergency physician is a physician who works at an emergency department to care for acutely ill or injured patients. They care for unscheduled and undifferentiated patients of all ages.
