Get to know PGY-4 Resident Dr. Scott Martin Fiedler, who serves patients in Los Angeles, California.
Dr. Fiedler’s acclaimed career in medicine began after he earned his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Queensland in 2016. He is currently in his fourth year of residency within the Neurology Residency Program at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles, California.
The Neurology Residency Program at Cedars-Sinai is a dynamic, graduate medical training center built on a collegial atmosphere, with close teaching relationships between residents and nationally recognized faculty. Housed among the outstanding research and clinical facilities in the Pavilion, the neuroscience departments are among the organization’s top growth priorities.
Fourth-year trainees operate as chief residents and oversee patient assignments and teaching on the neurology ward/consult service. They take on increased leadership and organizational roles. They interpret electroencephalogram (EEG) tests with limited over-reading and will have opportunities to pursue experiences in intraoperative monitoring cases.
In the outpatient setting, residents are responsible for working up and managing patients with limited attending input. They perform and interpret EEG/nerve conduction velocity studies in conjunction with teaching faculty. Six months of elective time during this year provides more time to pursue additional training or to develop research projects in keeping with the individual residents’ interests and career goals.
Neurology is a branch of medicine dealing with disorders of the nervous system. Neurologists are licensed medical specialists who diagnose and treat disorders that affect the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscles of patients. They examine a patient’s mental and physical status, conduct medical tests and scans, and evaluate the results to diagnose and treat the patient.
