  • My son has been diagnosed with a joint infection. Is surgery the only treatment for this?

If there is truly suspicion for an infection we usually get an MRI of the joint of concern first in most cases. Based on MRI, laboratory values, and clinical exam If there is high suspicion for infection then surgery is definitely indicated. Infection can lead to irreversible damage to a joint which is the main reason we wash it out surgically to gain control. Now in your question you stated “joints” plural. Having multiple joints involved at the same time is more uncommon and usually some other process. Seeing an orthopedic surgeon board certified in pediatrics is def the right step of there is any joint or joints issues. READ MORE

  • Is surgery required for a shoulder dislocation?

If he is a repeat dislocator and has signs of Labral injury in his shoulder then surgery is usually worth considering. The pain unfortunately can be coming from a lot of things, surgery could help with stability but pain may not go away. That would take a lot of PT and strengthening. READ MORE

  • How soon after scoliosis surgery can I drive?

In my practice I usually do not let my patients drive till minimum 6 weeks. The problem is we do not want twisting of the back right after surgery. When your drive and have to check blind spots it may require twisting. At 6 weeks we get a slight bit liberal with recommendations. These rules are not set in stone and will vary from surgeon to surgeon. READ MORE

  • Can a brace fix scoliosis?

A brace absolutely cannot fix scoliosis. We use bracing in growing children to prevent curves from progressing but they will not make a curve disappear. This is a common misconception about bracing. Bracing is meant to prevent worsening in a growing child but cannot make a curve disappear. Bracing is of no use in a fully mature adolescent or adult. • How long does it take for a fracture to heal in an infant?

Babies heal very quick. Can be on the order of just a few weeks. Usually does not lead to a long term impact. Hairline not medical term but my assumption is it is a minor torus or incomplete or nondisplaced fracture. These never lead to long term issues. READ MORE

  • Why is my daughter limping after her knee surgery?

It depends on a lot of factors. Depending on the injury and want was needed to be repaired limping can be present for quite some time after a surgical procedure. The discomfort can be also due to a lot of factors. Stiffness can lead to discomfort. So can weak muscles after an injury. Unfortunately complications such as infection can also present with continued pain. I would def follow up with your physician and follow all post operative recommendations. READ MORE
