With more than two decades of experience in the field of psychiatry, Dr. Mushtaq is the Founder of Texas Psychiatry Group in Houston, Texas, offering services such as psychotherapy and psychopharmacology.

Psychiatry is the medical specialty devoted to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of mental disorders. These include various maladaptations related to mood, behavior, cognition, and perceptions. Psychiatrists evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. They conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, develop treatment plans, prescribe medication, and evaluate treatment results.

With her first priority having always been the well-being of her patients, she founded Texas Psychiatry Group as an avenue to enhance the quality of patient care by focusing on providing individualized  treatments for her patients, as well as collaboratively working alongside their primary care physicians and any other treating physicians to help them recover and return stability to their lives. Her specialities include ADHD/ADD, mood disorders, anxiety disorder, PTSD and trauma disorder, psychotic disorder, personality disorder, sleeping disorder, and more. 

Licensed to practice medicine in Texas, Michigan, and Ohio, Dr. Mushtaq has held several roles, including: psychiatrist at MHMRA in Harris County, Texas, telepsychiatrist at Harbor Behavioral Health in Toledo, Ohio, and psychiatrist at Texas Behavioral Health – a private practice group, 

A gifted teacher, she has a passion for teaching and has served as an honorary clinical instructor  for medical and nursing students. She is also the author of multiple publications in psychiatric journals.

After earning her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from Dow Medical College in Pakistan in 1998, Dr. Mushtaq relocated to the United States to further her education. She completed her internship and residency in general psychiatry at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock in 2015. 

Specializing in the treatment of all scopes of mental illness, the doctor is board-certified in general psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology,  which is dedicated to promoting high quality patient care for the public through the initial and continuing certification of psychiatrists and neurologists. She is also a member of the Texas Medical Association and  was an Executive Member of the Patient Welfare Association in Pakistan.

Pertaining to her various achievements throughout her extensive career, Dr. Mushtaq participated in various research presentations such as, “Spirituality in Psychiatry Residency Program: Interdisciplinary / Interprofessional Considerations” (2012) and  “Prevalence and Distribution of Metabolic Syndrome in the Pediatric Population and Especially Its Association with Second Generation Antipsychotics” (2011). She also served as a speaker on a panel to address domestic Violence at the MCC Health Fair in Dallas (2010), as well as hosted a local community radio channel – 120 am Dallas (2010) to promote awareness about mental health issues in her community. In addition, she served as a member of the Quality Improvement Council at Health Sciences Center (2014-2015) and was awarded first position in a debate competition about mental health services in Third World countries (intercollege level – Karachi, Pakistan). 

In her spare time, Dr. Mushtaq enjoys reading books, travelling, and spending time with her family. In addition to English, she speaks Hindi and Urdu.
