  • Can eyelids be lifted without surgery?

Eyelid skin can be tightened with lasers which can give the upper eyelids a more rested look, but will not replace surgery if you have a significant amount of excess upper eyelid skin. READ MORE

  • How long after rhinoplasty will my nose feel normal?

Most patients feel like they are "back to normal" at about 4-6 weeks, but your nose will continue to heal over the next year. I tell my patients at about 3 months they'll likely stop noticing changes when they look in the mirror, but if you compare a picture at 3 months, 6 months, 12 months after surgery you'll see subtle differences. • How long does it take for plastic surgery scars to heal?

All scars mature over the first 1-1.5 year. Eating a healthy diet, getting adequate protein, sleep, and following your physician's postoperative instructions are vital in the first few weeks of healing. After the sutures are removed, I recommend silicone based products and sunscreen to all of my patients to optimize wound healing. READ MORE

  • How long does it take to recover from eyelid surgery?

It depends on the type of eyelid surgery you are having done. I remove my sutures in the first week and allow patients to return to exercise at 1-2 weeks depending on their procedure. Bruising may be minimal, but it may also last for 2 weeks depending on what was done. READ MORE

  • Uneven side & nostril after septorhinoplasty

I'm sorry you are experiencing this. Rhinoplasty is a tricky surgery for a number of reasons, one of them being the healing process. As the skin shrink wraps back onto the bone and cartilage framework, it can sometimes cause the nose to twist one way or the other. Even in the best surgical hands, this can happen. It takes a full year to heal and at one month there is still a lot of swelling between the skin and the framework below. I'd recommend seeing your surgeon when he or she gets back into town. Regarding nostril sizes, this is something that patients always fixate READ MORE

  • How many times can you have nose surgery?

There is no specific number, but each time you have a revision the risks of postoperative complications and the difficulty of the surgery are higher. READ MORE

  • How long after blepharoplasty can I workout?

I typically recommend 7-10 days because exercise increases your postoperative swelling and potential risk of bleeding. Sometimes with lower lid blepharoplasty patients may need to wait 10-14 days depending on what type they had done and if there's any residual swelling noted at their postoperative visit. READ MORE

  • When can I lift weights after blepharoplasty surgery?

2 weeks you can resume all normal activity including lifting weights. READ MORE

  • How soon after nose plastic surgery can you exercise?

Light exercise like walking you can start a few days after surgery. Anything else I usually recommend waiting 2 weeks. The key for rhinoplasty surgery is keeping the swelling down while you're healing. Exercising during the acute recovery period can increase swelling and postoperative bleeding. Every physician has their own guidelines so this is a ballpark figure and I'd ask your surgeon their particular protocol. READ MORE

  • How do I reduce the swelling in my nose after rhinoplasty?

Postoperative day 3 is usually the worst swelling. To decrease the swelling you want to sleep with your head elevated (keeping your head above the level of your heart helps the swelling resolve), apply ice to your cheeks (but don't get the cast wet), drink plenty of fluids, and avoid prepared foods/salt. Some surgeons prescribe a course of steroids after the surgery to help, but swelling for the first few weeks is very normal. READ MORE

  • Does facelift surgery leave scars?

Every incision leaves a fine line which is a controlled scar. Good placement of incisions during a facelift and a meticulous closure should make them barely perceivable to the untrained eye. READ MORE

Get to know Otolaryngologist and Facial Plastic Surgeon Dr. Whitney A. Pafford, who serves patients in Littleton, Colorado.

A board-certified Otolaryngologist specializing in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Dr. Pafford is in practice at Colorado Eye Consultants. She joins the team as a decorated combat veteran who served eight years in the United States Air Force where she rose to the rank of Lt. Colonel.

Guided by a passion for helping others, she established a Head and Neck Cancer Awareness initiative at both Wright Patterson Air Force Base and Landstuhl Regional Medical Center. She also served as the Chief of Facial Trauma while on deployment in Afghanistan and served overseas for half of her military career.

Dr. Pafford received her medical degree from New York Medical College, before completing her residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at New York University School of Medicine, where she served as Chief Resident. Following her training and time as a military surgeon, she was selected for a highly competitive fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in New York City. Training under world-renowned leaders in her field, she was able to further hone her surgical expertise in both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the face and neck, minimally invasive endoscopic facial rejuvenation, facial paralysis, and vascular malformations of the head and neck.

Her extensive training and unique background have helped her to establish a reputation as a skillful surgeon who utilizes the latest and most innovative techniques to obtain exceptional, natural-looking results. This approach, along with a compassionate bedside manner and dedication to helping others, has led Dr. Pafford to help her patients achieve their functional and cosmetic goals through both surgical and non-surgical procedures.

“Your face is the first thing anyone notices during social interactions. Patients want it to reflect how they feel on the inside and have a sense of aesthetic harmony so that others don’t focus on one particular area of the face and instead focus on them as a person. Whether it’s injecting botox to help someone appear more approachable and less angry or an eyelid reconstruction to regain function and a natural appearance, both patients want to look in the mirror and feel like themselves. One of the most gratifying aspects of this career path is being able to help restore a person’s confidence in their appearance so they can let their true personality shine through in everyday life.”

Specializing in both reconstructive and aesthetic surgery of the face and neck, Dr. Pafford’s surgical expertise includes functional and cosmetic procedures of the lids, brows, face, nose, lip, chin, neck, and ears, as well as reconstructive surgery following facial trauma and Mohs surgery. Additionally, she performs a wide range of non-surgical procedures for facial rejuvenation such as injectables, including facial fillers and Botox®, and other anti-aging treatments.

As a testament to her success, Dr. Pafford is the recipient of numerous awards and honors while serving in the military, including the Meritorious Service Award, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, and Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, among others.

When not working, she enjoys the outdoors with her dog, hot yoga, weightlifting, antique shopping, and traveling. She has also participated in numerous humanitarian missions with organizations such as The India Project, Healing the Children, and the HUGS Foundation.
