As one of the first periodontists trained in osseointegration by Professor Per-Ingvar Branemark in 1983, Dr. Langer’s development of new modalities of therapy, including the early re-entry procedure for bone grafts, the ridge augmentation procedure, the subepithelial connective tissue graft, and various flap procedures for implants, these have become standard methods of treatment and are taught at most dental schools throughout the world.

Among his professional experience, he is a former Associate Clinical Professor of Periodontics and the former Director of Postgraduate Clinical Periodontics at Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery. 

In regards to his educational background, he earned his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry Degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. Thereafter, he went on to receive his certificate in periodontics and his Master of Science Degree from Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine in 1966. In addition to being a Fellow of the Academy of Osseointegration, he is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Dental Association, the Northeastern Society of Periodontists, and the New York State Dental Association.

A periodontist is a dentist who specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal disease, and in the placement of dental implants. They are familiar with the latest techniques for diagnosing and treating periodontal disease, as well as trained in performing cosmetic periodontal procedures.

Throughout the years, Dr. Langer Dr. has lectured extensively throughout the world and has written over 40 articles and chapters in 6 textbooks, many of which have original concepts that have enhanced the clinical practice of periodontics and implant dentistry. He is the 1992 recipient of the Hirschfeld Award for Clinical Excellence and the 1997 recipient of the American Academy of Periodontology Master Clinician Award.
