Dr. Schneidewend received his Doctor of Osteopathic (DO) degree from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University in Downers Grove, IL. Thereafter, he went on to complete a residency in Internal Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, WI, followed by a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at the same College.
Dr. Schneidewend is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology, and Hematology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Dr. Schneidewend is trained in all areas of medical oncology, with a special focus in genitourinary cancers (such as prostate, testicular, and kidney), multiple myeloma, leukemia, and lymphoma. Through collaboration with the Blood Center of Wisconsin, he trained with some of the leading hematologists in the country.
Hematology, also spelled haematology, is the branch of medicine concerned with the study of the cause, prognosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases related to blood. Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. As a hematologist & oncologist, Dr. Schneidewend specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and/or prevention of blood diseases and cancers such as iron-deficiency anemia, hemophilia, sickle-cell disease, leukemia and lymphoma.He has a special interest in treating blood clots with new oral anticoagulants.
