Get to know Gastroenterologist Dr. Sameeh Kawar, who serves patients in Dearborn, Michigan.

An excellent general surgeon, Dr. Kawar works with patients at his private practice – Kawar Surgical Center – in Dearborn, Michigan.

A native of Egypt, he graduated with his medical degree from the University of Alexandria Faculty of Medicine in 1978. He served as an attending physician at Al-Adan Hospital in Kuwait for 17 years, before relocating to the United States, where he completed his residency in general surgery at the Henry Ford Hospital in 2006.

A Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in Glasgow, the doctor is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.

General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and other body systems. A general surgeon performs a wide range of surgeries for many forms of intestinal and abdominal wall neoplasms, gallbladder disease, gastric and biliary disease. They follow the patient through critical care and surgical recovery all the way to outpatient care.

Among his various accolades, Dr. Kawar has been the recipient of the Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2015, 2014, 2012, 2011), and Patients’ Choice Award (2014, 2012, 2011).

On a more personal note, he is fluent in both English and Arabic.
