Get to know Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Jeffrey Kann, who serves patients in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

An excellent orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Kann came to Tri-State Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in 1998. He cares for athletes playing a variety of sports, provides general orthopaedic care including total knee joint replacement surgery, and treats various work-related injuries. 

His extensive knowledge and expertise in conditions of the knee, foot and ankle have enabled him to contribute chapters to books on the subject, as well as many articles for prominent medical journals.

Tri-State Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine is a multi-specialty orthopaedic practice of board- certified physicians. All of the physicians provide general orthopaedic care and have also completed advanced fellowship training in specific areas of orthopaedic care, including hand, wrist and upper extremity surgery; foot and ankle surgery; arthroscopic shoulder, elbow and knee surgery; sports medicine; hip and knee joint replacement and revision surgery; and spine surgery. They also offer Ortho Urgent Care hours.

Currently serving as the Medical Director for the workers’ compensation program at Tri-State Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine, Dr. Kann has served as an Orthopaedic Consultant for the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team. He has also served as a Clinical Instructor of Orthopaedics and Foot/Ankle Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

A Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (FAAOS), he is an active member of the American Foot and Ankle Society.

Regarding his educational background, Dr. Kann earned his Bachelor of Science degree in molecular biology from Vanderbilt University in 1987, graduating summa cum laude. He continued his education at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where he earned his medical degree in 1991. While at the University of Pittsburgh, he served as President of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He went on to complete a five-year orthopaedic surgical residency at Rush Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Hospital in Chicago, where he was named Chief Orthopaedic Resident in his final year. His clinical training was completed at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, where he performed a foot and ankle fellowship under Dr. Mark Myerson.

With almost 30 years of experience, the doctor is board-certified in orthopaedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopaedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons.

Orthopaedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopaedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.
