Nicholas Martinez, MD, is a board-certified gastroenterologist providing complete care for patients at Gastroenterology Clinic of San Antonio. Dr. Martinez found his inspiration for pursuing a career in medicine after observing the health problems suffered by close family members when he was growing up. His experiences still inspire him as a doctor, and his patient, comforting manner reassures people who come to him for care, making them feel like family. A native of San Antonio, Dr. Martinez speaks fluent Spanish as well as English. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, before studying medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He then stayed at UT Health San Antonio for his internal medicine residency and gastroenterology fellowship. During his training, Dr. Martinez received a humanitarian award for his outstanding patient care and exemplary bedside manner. Dr. Martinez has a particular interest in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and colon cancer prevention. He’s published many scholarly articles in leading medical journals, and regularly presents his research findings at national academic conferences. Dr. Martinez holds certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine, and has a decade of experience helping patients with a range of gastrointestinal disorders.
