Get to know Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Mohammed Reza, who serves patients in Florida. 

Dr. Reza is an infectious disease specialist who joined the team at CAN Community Health in Daytona Beach and Jacksonville, Florida in 2016. The mission of CAN Community Health is to provide a continuum of medical, social, and educational services essential to the health and well-being of those living with HIV, AIDS, Hepatitis C, sexually transmitted diseases, other diseases, and to enhance public awareness. 

In 2004, Dr. Reza attended UMass-Amherst and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in biology and a Master’s degree in neuroscience. He then attended Saba University School of Medicine in Netherlands-Antilles, where he earned his medical degree in 2009. Thereafter, he proceeded to Pennsylvania State University for his residency in internal medicine. This was followed by a fellowship in infectious disease at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville.

In addition to having achieved membership with the American College of Physicians and the American College of Infectious Disease, Dr. Reza is board-certified in both internal medicine and infectious disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Infectious disease, also known as infectiology, is a medical specialty dealing with the diagnosis, control, and treatment of infections. An infectious disease specialist’s practice may consist largely of managing nosocomial (hospital-acquired) infections, or it may be out-patient based. Dr. Reza specializes in infections that are difficult to diagnose or unresponsive to treatments, such as HIV or airborne infections from a foreign country. 

Although he was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Dr. Reza grew up in Boston, Massachusetts. He is an avid runner, having run the Boston Marathon and Ome Marathon in Japan. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling.
