Get to know Psychiatrist Dr. Sulman Aziz Mirza, who serves patients in Sterling, Virginia. 

Dr. Mirza is a board-certified psychiatrist who is the Founder and Medical Director of LouCouPsych in Sterling, Virginia. There, he and his team of professionals offer patients treatment in areas that cover the wide spectrum of mental health. Some of the psychiatric services offered at LouCouPsych include medical management, adult ADHD treatment, opioid use disorder treatment, alcohol use disorder treatment, and more. 

Dr. Mirza firmly believes that every individual is different and is seeking care for a unique reason. His practice is based on the belief that each individual deserves the same respect and treatment that he would demand for himself. Dr. Mirza has been named Loudoun’s Favorite Psychiatrist in 2018. He enjoys working with his patients and appreciates his opportunity to help whoever puts his or her trust in him.

Dr. Mirza earned his medical degree from St. Matthew’s University in 2012. He then went on to complete his residency in psychiatry at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. Thereafter, he completed his fellowship in child & adolescent psychiatry at the University of Maryland and Sheppard Pratt Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. 

Dr. Mirza is dual board-certified in psychiatry and child & adolescent psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the public interest and the professions of psychiatry and neurology by promoting excellence in practice through certification and continuing certification processes.

Dr. Mirza is a member of the American Psychiatric Association (APA). The APA is an organization of psychiatrists working together to ensure humane care and effective treatment for all persons with mental illness, including substance use disorders. It is the voice and conscience of modern psychiatry.

Throughout his training, Dr. Mirza has learned from some of the leaders and pioneers in the field of psychiatry. He has also had the privilege to work in a variety of settings, from inpatient psychiatric units with medical capabilities, to the classrooms of Baltimore City public schools. 

Psychiatry is the medical specialty devoted to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of mental disorders. These include various maladaptations related to mood, behaviour, cognition, and perceptions. A psychiatrist, like Dr. Mirza, helps patients by evaluating medical and psychosocial conditions, developing and implementing treatment plans, as well as monitoring and evaluating treatment results. Dr. Mirza is knowledgeable and experienced with the latest pharmacological interventions and therapy modalities.
