Get to know Speech Pathologists Patrick R. Donovan, who serves the population of Texas. Patrick graduated with his Associates Degree in 2007. Wanting to further his education, he then completed his Masters Degree in 2011. Additionally he holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology. To stay up to date in his field he remains a professional member of the American Speech–Language–Hearing Association. He currently practices as a Speech Pathologists with Trinity Mission Health and Rehabilitation of Burleson. Patrick attributes his professional success to his ability to build a rapport with clients. He is dedicated to the well being and quality of life of clients. He wants to be a motivation and create drive for clients to strive to better themselves. He was inspired because of his own personal experience with Speech Language Pathology sparked his interest in the field. He also attributes his success to his parents and grandparents which are a huge support system and motivators. When not working, he enjoys collectible items. Speech-Language Pathology is a field of expertise practiced by a clinician known as a speech-language pathologist (SLP), also sometimes referred to as a speech and language therapist or a speech therapist. SLP is considered a “related health profession” along with audiology, optometry, occupational therapy, clinical psychology, physical therapy, and others. The field of SLP is distinguished from other “related health professions” SLPs are legally permitted to conclude to certain disorders which fall within their scope of practice. SLPs specialize in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of communication disorders (speech disorders and language disorders), cognitive-communication disorders, voice disorders, and swallowing disorders. SLPs also play an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorder (often in a team with pediatricians and psychologists).
