Get to know Internist Dr. Tania C. Diaz, who serves patients in Asheville, North Carolina.

Dr. Diaz is a skilled internist whose philosophical approach is treating others in a manner in which she would like to be treated. She can be found on staff at Mission Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina. 

Mission Hospital is Mission Health’s flagship hospital and is licensed for 815 beds. It is a regional referral center for tertiary and quaternary care and the region’s only Level II trauma center. “Our mission is to create an exceptional care and service experience for every patient and family, every time by providing positive recognition to our team members, assisting with needs, responding to inquiries, resolving issues, and identifying opportunities to be a better partner.”

Born in Bolivia, Dr. Diaz’s parents influenced her interest in healthcare. She graduated with her medical degree from Higher University of San Andrés in 1997. She then went on to perform her internship and residency in internal medicine at St John’s Episcopal Hospital in 2013, followed by her fellowship in geriatric medicine at NYU Langone Medical Center in 2014.

Specializing in preventive medicine, complex diseases and healthy aging, she is board-certified in internal medicine and geriatric medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

In order to stay up to date in her field, Dr. Diaz remains an active member of the American College of Physicians, the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, the American Geriatrics Society, and the American Medical Association.

Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. They manage and prevent common and complex diseases by providing comprehensive care and promoting overall well-being.

Fluent in English, Portuguese, Spanish, Dr. Diaz is involved in mission work in places like Mongolia.
