Get to know Medical Internist Dr. Dhivya Sugumar, who serves patients in Gilbert, Arizona.

Dr. Sugumar is an experienced medical internist delivering comprehensive, expert care in collaboration with each of her patients. Seeing adults and geriatrics, she is in practice with Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center at Banner Gateway Medical Center.

Banner MD Anderson patients experience customized, comprehensive and compassionate cancer care in Gilbert, Arizona. Patients have a team of experts who understand the nuances of each type of cancer to develop a treatment plan based on his or her unique needs. The cancer experts include medical oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, physician specialists, nurses and clinical support staff. Clinical nurse navigators work closely with patients, guiding them through their first visit and serving as a single point of contact throughout their care.

Graduating with her medical degree from Government Kilpauk Medical College in India in 2007, Dr. Sugumar relocated to the United States to further her education. Once there, she performed her residency in internal medicine at St Mary’s Health Center in 2015.

That same year, she attained board certification in internal medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. They manage and prevent common and complex diseases by providing comprehensive care and promoting overall well-being.
