The goals of reconstructive burn surgery are to improve both the function and the cosmetic appearance of burn scars. This involves altering scar tissue, with both nonoperative and operative treatment. A burn surgeon examines, diagnoses, and surgically treats patients with burns from heat, cold, chemical, or electrical incidents. He or she performs escharotomy, skin grafting, and secondary burn surgery, and reviews patient history and confirms need for surgery.
An engaging and impactful speaker, Dr. Short delivers enlightening insight, powerful testimony, and leading education inspired by her own story of enduring multiple personal setbacks. “You woke up this morning never imagining what was to come. But you and your family will get through this and I will help.” Persevering even with the unexpected is a crede she lives and instills in her patients.
A nationally recognized consultant, author, and philanthropist, she is the Executive Director of the McMillion Education Foundation, a scholarship foundation designed to help bridge the gap to educational success. She coordinates and participates in burn outreach through camps, carnivals, and conferences.
In the continued spirit of wanting to do more she developed a largely organic, all natural product designed to moisturize while helping to alleviate dry, itchy skin – Dr. Shortee’s Burn Butter and Total Body Butter.
