Certified in Invisalign and lingual orthodontics, Dr. Washington is a skilled orthodontist who is proud to be in practice with his father, Dr. Kent W. Washington, at Washington Orthodontics. 

Over the past 20 years, Washington Orthodontics has built a reputation in the Sumter and Columbia communities for providing excellence in orthodontic treatment and results. The father-son team treats all of their patients as if they were members of their very own family. They understand that orthodontics can be a transformative experience, and they want each patient to develop the healthy, confident, and beautiful smile that he or she deserves.

Their goal is to change lives by providing lovely and lasting smiles for all patients. They do this by using the latest in braces technology, including Invisalign®, while maintaining a friendly, personalized family-run environment.

Having lived in Columbia since 1993, Dr. Washington is a graduate of Spring Valley High School. He earned his undergraduate degree at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina in 2005.

Following graduation, he moved to Washington, D.C. to attend Howard University College of Dentistry. After graduating from dental school with honors, Omicron Kappa Upsilon, and with his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2010, he pursued his orthodontic residency program, also at Howard. 

During residency training, Dr. Washington conducted extensive research work in the Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, some of which served as the focus of his thesis.

Continuously advancing his efforts, he is a member of numerous professional associations, including the American Association of Orthodontists, the Southern Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society (National Dental Honor Society), and the Greater Columbia Dental Society.

Orthodontics is a specialty of dentistry that deals with the diagnosis, prevention, and correction of malpositioned teeth and jaws. Orthodontists are responsible for identifying problems with the positioning of a patient’s teeth and with their oral development. They utilize the most advanced procedures and equipment available to ensure that every patient achieves a healthy and beautiful smile. 

Elected to the South Carolina Commission for Minority Affairs, Dr. Washington is involved in several local nonprofit organizations and efforts, including Give Kids a Smile Day and Special Olympics.
