  • My daughter has been bullied in school, and now she isolates herself at home. What can I do for her?

Every child is different, but overall everyone just wants to be loved. My suggestion would be to make sure that her home is a safe place. That when she comes home from a bad day at school, she knows her family is there for her to love her no matter what. Focus on positive things. Give her compliments and hugs, even if it seems like it doesn't make a difference (it does). Play games together. Eat dinner together without distractions like TV or cell phones. Also, make sure the teachers and adults at school are aware of the bullying. Follow up with them to see what is being done about it. And counseling is always an option as well. READ MORE

  • How is religion dealt with in therapy?

Therapists may ask you about your religion and your preferences to help get a better sense of what is important to you and how you view the world, as well as how you cope. If religion is an important part of who you are, therapists take this into account in identifying appropriate and helpful coping skills. Each therapist may have a different view, but ultimately, the client guides the therapy. If a person is not religious or does not have a preference, the therapist will most likely gear towards other coping mechanisms and supports. Religious preferences should never affect the therapy process in a negative or un-helpful way. Hope this helps answer your question. READ MORE

  • Can a counselor help me get over my depression due to my divorce?

Whether a divorce is a mutual agreement and somewhat peaceful, or turbulent like you mentioned, there is still a sense of loss. The feelings you are describing are a typical and normal response to a life event like divorce. A counselor can most certainly help you through your situation and assist you with managing those negative thoughts and feelings. A counselor can be a neutral and non-judgmental person that you express your feelings and concerns to and help guide you in your next steps. READ MORE
