  • 5 Tips to Increase Fiber in your Diet

You might be wondering why the focus is on fiber. Let's first explain what fiber is, where it comes from, and then how we can add more. Fiber is a plant-based nutrient. It is a type of carbohydrate that does not get digested and passes through the digestive tract almost intact. However, as fiber is...

  • What is the best diet for inflammation?

Hello there, I believe in the power of plants to lower inflammation. What does this mean? Adding more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds to your daily meals. Aim to have 2 cups of vegetables per meal (choose a variety of colors). Add ginger and turmeric daily, in your foods, as tea, or juice. Reduce the intake of pro-inflammatory foods- highly processed foods, fried foods, or refined carbohydrates, stay hydrated. At every bout, investigate the foods you consumed so you can see if there are any trends or foods triggering the inflammation. READ MORE

  • Is it safe to go off rice and wheat for a long period of time?

Hello, there I have follow-up questions: why did this change? Do you see yourself doing this long-term? Is it sustainable long term? Rice and wheat are a type of carbohydrates, that being said, you can add other types of carbohydrates such as fruits, potatoes, peas, corn, winter squash, quinoa, barley, farro, etc. READ MORE

  • How to gain weight fast and safely for weight training?

Hello, In order to gain weight in a safe and healthy way, you want to increase your calories by 250-500 a day. This will allow you to gain 1-2 lbs a week. One approach would be looking at how many calories you are currently eating and adding those calories that way. Adding calories in a healthy way can be by adding 1 avocado to your meal, adding 1-2 extra servings of protein or whole grains, or 1 extra snack. Let me know if you have any other questions. • Do certain foods make my urine smell?

Hello, Yes, different foods can make your urine smell differently. As well as any supplements or medications we take. What you can do is track what you eat when you notice a smell and see if you can pinpoint the food. You did great at drinking more water as this helps your body (kidneys) to flush the smell out. • How much protein should I have a day?

Great question. The amount of protein depends on your weight, height, age, and activity level. As well as if you have any medical conditions that would require protein modification. The general rule per the USDA Dietary Guidelines is 0.8 grams of protein per kg of body weight (1 kg = 2.2 lbs). Too much protein (mostly coming from animal sources) poses an increased load of work to the kidneys. It is also extra calories that can increase body weight. READ MORE

  • Is it okay to have only fruits for breakfast?

Hello, Fruit is a great source of fiber and nutrients. However, having just fruit for breakfast is not something I would recommend because it will be digested quickly and you will be hungry right away. I would recommend adding some type of protein and whole grain. For example, overnight oats with peanut butter and blueberries. 2 boiled eggs, apple, and whole-grain toast. READ MORE

  • Can you suggest the proper diet for someone suffering from constipation?

Hi there, Constipation can be caused by several factors- medications decreased water intake and not enough fiber in the diet. Increasing fiber daily can help reduce the symptoms. Here are some ways to add fiber- whole grains, oatmeal, blackberries, blueberries, pears, apples, leafy greens. You want to add at least 1-2 cups of fruits/veggies per meal.
