Ingrown toenail surgery complications?
Go see foot doctor. Have an x-ray of your big toe taken to rule out an exostosis or spur on the bone right underneath the toenail. A bony growth there can cause a "bump" in the skin under the nail, therefore causing the nail to grow curved or "n" shaped. At this point, a surgical procedure may be needed to remove that exostosis and alleviate your nail problem READ MORE
I had an ankle injury 6 years ago. I am having pain in the same region again. What could be the reason?
Joint injuries can later develop into traumatic arthritis. See your podiatrist or orthopedist for further evaluation and treatment options. READ MORE
When do you see a doctor for a sore ankle?
Right away READ MORE
How long does it take to recover from a broken ankle?
Two to three months. The fractured bone can take 6 to 8 weeks to heal and in the case of a 14 year old it's be around 6 weeks, probably sooner if he's otherwise healthy and well nourished. After the fracture heals is can take up to an additional month to strengthen the fracture and joint and rehab it all back to "normal" READ MORE
How do I know if my ankle injury is serious?
You will not know unless you go see a doctor immediately and have x-rays done READ MORE
How to ease pain in my right ankle?

The arch in my foot has lessened over time?

Will I need surgery for a sprained ankle?
No really. You will only need surgery if there is torn ligaments or injuries to the surfaces of the ankle joints READ MORE
What are the treatment options for toe fungus?
See a foot doctor. Options include: topical antifungal creams or solutions that have to be applied daily, usually 6 or more months for best outcomes; oral antifungal tablets that are taken daily for a three month period. Some advocate removal of the fungal toenails and allow new nail to grow. This one is extreme to me and I usually don't recommend it READ MORE
What is the best way to treat ingrown toenails?
The best way to treat ingrown toenails is to have them partially removed via a minor surgical procedure, done in office under local anesthesia. The procedure can be non-permanent or permanent, depending on the level of chronicity of the ingrown toenails READ MORE
Why does the center of my foot hurt when I walk?
It could be a condition know as plantar fasciitis or plantar fascia strain. Usually results from collapsing of the arch and/or wearing improper shoes with no or poor arch support READ MORE
Why is one of my toes smaller than the others?
It is not normal. It is a condition called brachymetatarsia. Brachymetatarsia is a condition in which there is one or more abnormally short or overlapping toe bones (metatarsals). This condition may result due to a congenital defect - a rare condition that develops from early closure of the growth plate. It most frequently involves the fourth metatarsal/toe. READ MORE
How do ingrown toenails get infected?
Ingrown toenails get infected when the nail plate punctures the skin and bacteria gets into the skin (an eventually the blood stream if left unattended). It's easier for bacteria to grow rapidly on an open wound than on intact skin. See a podiatrist for ingrown toenails. You want to have a professional with sterilized instruments take them out. DO NOT PERFORM BATHROOM SURGERIES!!! I have seen too many bad outcomes from patients attempting to do their own nail avulsions. READ MORE
Is there an effective way to remove and prevent corns?
Yes you can prevent corns. Corns form, usually on to of toes, due to constant friction on the toe joints from shoes. It is common in those with hammertoes, or crooked curled toes. They can be prevented by wearing proper sized shoes with enough room in the toebox to spread toes out and wiggle toes up and down. READ MORE
Is a bunion a bone growth?
No. It's basically a misalignment of the big toe joint. The big bone behind the big toe starts sliding/protruding out away from foot and it results in the big toe going laterally toward the second toe. READ MORE
What should I do to prevent my feet from hurting in the snow?
Avoid walking long distances in the snow. Wear thick cotton or wool socks. wear well insulated boots that are for winter weather. Do your toes ever get very pale or get a bluish/gray color? If so, you may have a condition known as Reynaud's syndrome. This condition causes constriction/tightening of arteries in the toes and feet and restricts adequate blood flow. This can cause pain, paleness, blue/gray discoloration of the skin. This condition requires evaluation by podiatrist and vascular specialist READ MORE
What causes toenails to be thick and yellow?
Fungal infection can cause thick and yellow nails. Nail polish can discolor toenails. Injury to nail root and nail bed can cause thickening of the nail. READ MORE
